"The atmosphere was not great, lotsof noise and initiallly felt exploited, felt a bit dingy and had to make do with it. It felt like the establishment take advantage of the fact that they are so conveniently located that they neglect to update their facilities, some showers did not work properly and bedding was not that clean, the blankets had hairs on them e.t.c. once in a lifetime experience! "Stayed December 08. This place has 24hr reception/security. Girlfriend and I stayed in 8 person co-ed room. Building is old but kept well, had to fidget with radiator a bit to keep temp below 1000 degrees F :-). First night was great, with two other courteous guys, slept well. Second night there were three additional rowdy guys, but they were quiet at night. Prepare to meet some interesting people if you visit. Had no trouble with bathroom availability in the morning. Building is located close to two subway stations (on 103st) west of central park. One of the subway lines stops ~10:00pm (if you plan to stay out, take the correct line on return). After checkout they will hold your luggage until your flight that day. This was my first time to NYC, the staff was helpful and I felt safe at this hostel. "Can't beat the location, right next to a subway station on Central Park, Manhattan. The facilities are pretty spartan, but clean enough considering the amount of traffic and the fact everything is shared. The lockers are very small, which is annoying if you have something long to store. Some staff weren't particularly friendly, but others were quite helpful in terms of helping find local shops, etc. " - Anthony Munter
