The Apa Horikawadori hotel is located just about 3 blocks from Kyoto Station, therefore was great for the many day trips that we had planned on our vacation. This was our second stay at the hotel; the desk staff now speak English fairly well. The rooms are simple and small, but clean and comfortable. Non-smoking rooms available. The best for us was the breakfast buffet that included lots of choices, with many vegetarian choices (one has to be adventurous and eat the Japanese-style food, but it's delicious). The buffet wasn't free, but reasonably priced. We'll stay there again on our next trip to Kyoto.
Location: close to Kyoto station on the north side. A little hard to find but certainly cloase. Make sure you have a good map of the location. A sister APA is a block away from this, so they had a map in there to find this one. Amenities: OK, the bathrooms are clasic Japanese and small, but everything is there. You aren't there to stay in the room. Cleanliness- good. Comfort- cramped and a I had a view of the wall, but I only slept in the room. Comfort- bed, sheets and pillows better than average. Staff- ok, no issues. Value: very good primarily due to location and cleanliness. Took Subway everyday and couldnot have done much better for a balance of value and location. Would recommend it you are spending most of your time out of the hotel. Warning: small rooms, so don't try and cram too much luggage in there...had barely enough room to open 1 suitcase. Savings opportunity: Get a 1 day pass at the Kyoto station for 600 yen...you can travel the subway limitlessly for that day. Note: Starbucks in the Kyoto station underground at the PORTA.
Semi double bed room with bath and toilet. No Meals.
Semi double bed room with bath and toilet. Breakfast included.
This is an exceptionally good hotel, about 6 - 7 minutes walk from Kyoto station. Very clean rooms with some very helpful english speaking staff. I accidently set off a fire alarm, and they were very reasonable about it. Great internet facilities and a public bath for guests on the top floor. I would definitely stay here again.
I staied this hotel for second time. Good location, nice sauna, they added brekfest for the first day of stay
The overall accom is clean and pleasant. Location is very close to the train station and some cheap eat places were easily accessible. Would like to suggest that the hotel should provide wireless connection at least at the lobby area if not room. (Below Question 3 - i don't think we did get one from hotelclub unless it was part of the keypass pocket - didnt really read) :)
For my time there the staff seemed to be very efficent at keeping the room clean, the fact that they loaned Laptops to customers was very useful (for a feee of course). I was generally satisfied with my stay
Very good service, a pity not all staffs understand English...but they are very helpful though....need to point about a bit. The wall below the toilet basin came off, and the bed roller for one of the twin bed was spoilt; I had abit of time trying to explain to the staff about the problem. Dont think they really understood what I mean, but there got someone to repair both spoilt items.
good place for staing, not much distance from major Kyoto station. rooms quite small, staff dosn't speak enlgish at all.
Apa was a nice, clean and modern hotel right near the Kyoto train station. It was very convenient for getting in and out of the city and around the city via subway. Added plusses were in room internet service and a very extensive communal hot tub facility on the top floor. The room was not very large but was a comfortable size.
The hotel is quite nice and the location is at a quiet corner near the Kyoto train station. However, you cant see it from the main street, but asking at the other Apa Ekimae hotel chain will get you there. Unfortunately, no free internet services are provided, which is a bit inconvenient. You have to pay 100 yen for 10 mins of usage.Other than that, it is a good choice for that price range. The staff is friendly and speak reasonable amount of English.
The hotel is very clean and quite spacious (especially after just coming from Tokyo). It is a fantastic location in relation to Kyoto Station (the central hub where most people coordinate their days from) as it is only about a 5 minute walk. Also, just around the corner on the main street there is a Karaoke bar which we had an absolute ball at on our second last night.
Really close to Kyoto station, great location for taking the bus/metro/train to go sightseeing. Friendly English speaking staff. The room is quite small but clean and you have all the space you need if you're the kind of person that just wants your hotel room to be a place where you sleep and take a shower. If you want a big room with a nice place to sit down and have a drink while looking out over the city this is not the place for you. But for us it was perfect! Good location, clean and friendly!:)
This hotel was a three minute walk from the station so was great to stay at to do all of our day-trips. Was very handy to have use of a microwave so we could make our own porridge for breakfast rather than eating out each morning. I'd accidentally taken a key big key from the Ryokan i'd stayed in beforehand and the staff organized for it to be returned. They were very helpful. There was a washing machine on site which was great and an onsen on the top floor which all the locals used a lot. I wasn't a fan of getting nude with others so i didn't use it. Good hotel. Would recommend it.
The spa on the top floor was great! It has separate male and female baths - i don`t know what the male one was like but the female one had lockers, a washing area, a hot bath, a cold bath and an outdoor bath - decent views of the city lights at night if you peep through the screen - also an area to do your hair afterwards with hairdryers and skin lotions - all free. I was a bit worried about the whole naked bath with strangers thing but it was very relaxed and i enjoyed it so much i went back for another bath the next morning! Rooms were also clean and comfortable and convenient for Kyoto station - 5 mins walk.
This place is very close to the Kyoto station 3 min walk. Rooms are not new but everything looks clean and tidy. Very good service staff speaks English.
Hotel rooms are very small, not enough room to fit 2 people in with your luggage in there. Located very close to train station and near the temples in kyoto.
Room very clean and good amenities within the room. However room was very small, bathroom even smaller and a view of the fire escape! Bed very very hard. Great location and reasonable price.
Close to Kyoto station and accessible to major sight-seeing spots, room could be very small if you pick a double bed room... Opt for twin bed room instead.
It is very conveniently located by the Kyoto train station. 3-5 min walk. We arrived at another hotel also called Apa which is slightly closer and easier to find. This was not a problem, they have a area map and get you back on track. The rooms are clean and functional, staff speaks reasonably good english and can give quite accurate directions for sightseeing and public transport. We had no problems getting around Kyoto from this location and plenty of restaurants and cafes at Kyoto station shopping area to choose from.
Hotel was located a 5-10 minute walk from Kyoto station - which is not the ideal place to stay in Kyoto - i would recommend staying closer to Gion. Room was very small and stuffy- we could not adjust the heating to be any cooler, when we asked they explained that this was because "no need cooling in winter- open window if need cool" This was then so noisy that even sleeping with earplugs in could not numb the noise. I would not stay in this hotel or recommend unless nothing else is available (like in our situation)
