A perfect location on the waterfront at the bottom of the long climb up to the University area. It was quaint in some ways but also strange in others. Perhaps we should have known that the bar in a Portugal hotel is really just the lounge so trying to get a drink in the bar was impossible. The staff were probably the best during our 7 hotel tour in Portugal. The room was slightly small for three people and the bathroom maximised in small footprint. Well worth using when in Coimbra.

Excellently located hotel for town or touring, a little noisy (tariffic noise) at night and bar only open at meal times. Very friendly and helpful staff

We stayed on the top floor on the end of the building which was a larger room. Accomodations were old but tidy. The view (180 degrees) from the small balcony was terrific of both the river area and the old city toward the University. Elevator is a real antique.

The Astoria Hotel in Coimbra is a long established almost 'colonial' style building with many original features. Service is good and staff friendly and helpful. Facilities are reasonable within the context of a three star hotel. It is located in the centre of the City overlooking the river. There is a road past the front but traffic is light. The city centre is a short walk and also the university (the oldest in Portugal) is within walking distance if you can manage the walk to the top of the hill. If we go to this part of Portugal again we will be happy to go back to the Astoria.

This is a charming hotel with art deco features throughout. Lashings of character. The best rooms face the river and have a balcony where you can sit and enjoy the breeze and the view. A most relaxing and enjoyable stay. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel if you like character and architecture.

Good service and a brilliant location made up for some rather faded and awkward room conversions. We had trouble with beds and heating, but were promptly moved to a better room when we expressed concerns. Parking has to be paid for by the four hour public meter., but there is plenty of space and hotel staff took our keys and topped up the meter for us while we were out Recommend the excellent cafe O Studente behind the hotel. English spoken and the goat in red wine and garlic extra good!
