Ateneo Hotel Madrid

This Hotel was a very good hotel located in the centre of Madrid and within walking distance to good facilities, most highlights and railway station. Staff were more than friendly and were willing to oblige when needing to store luggage. A most pleasant stay at the Ateneo.

Close to the subway, actually close to everything! very clean, very quiet and friendly staff. Good value for money.

I booked this hotel for three nights, missed my flight, so ended staying for just two. The hotel had no problem with this mishap and only charged for two nights, which was really good of them. I had read some reviews on the hotel that had mentioned a bad smell of drains. This was prevalent but not bad enough to complain. I do, however, have a problem breathing through my nose, so maybe not a good indicator! Being in the midst of a busy thoroughfare, it was buzzing with the sound of people enjoying themselves throughout the night/early hours of the morning but that didn't bother me either. I had a twin room which was spotless and had a good-sized bathroom, complete with hairdryer and magnified mirror directly over the basin which was a bonus for a short-sighted gal! You are right in the centre of the city with everything at your fingertips. Metro is roughly a three minute walk, so easy access from the airport. To summerise, cheap, cheerful, would stay there again.

Location good in terms of general centrality, but in a frenetic street which is also a mini red light district. WIndows thankfully sound resistant, but had to be kept closed, and wouldnt particularly have wanted to walk back to hotel alone.

Very central, just off Sol Square and Metro (my advice, 'jump the metro from the Airport'), right in the heart of the shopping centre. Staff helpful, we got ripped off in a taxi from the airport they organised a shuttle bus back for us, which was ok but got us to the airport too early for my liking especially as we did not have baggage to book in. There is another more exclusive option, which only costs a bit more. Breakfast was cheap and basic , but a good variety. We had a 3 night deal, the rooms were attick rooms, no views and i think they were smaller than the others, but it did the job for the amount of time spent in it. No complaints.

central location, spotless rooms, friendly service, good breakfast, excellent price, we'd come again.

Ideally situated just off the Gran Via.Very helpful staff.One minute walk to Sol metro station.Highly reccomended as a place to stay in Madrid.Would go back again. Tony. Ireland, June 2007.

The internet facility at the room is very good, but it was working one day. The second day was not working. The staff at the reception is very kind.

A very pleasant small hotel on a street that is well located. The staff are very pleasant and helpful and the rooms are very modern, with DSL and other features. There is a restaurant downstairs. A nice place to stay.

I was pleasantly surprised with this boutique hotel. The hotel is very secure and even though I was travelling alone felt very safe. The rooms are modern and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Free internet service. Breakfast is great. Extremely central location and I would definately recommend it to others and stay there again.

A highly recommended hotel in the very city of Madrid.

Ateneo is centrally located in Madrid. You have a short walk to the main metro station in Puerta de Sol for quick connections throughout Madrid. You can walk to many of the main attractions such as the Plaza Mayor, El Prado, Reina Sofia Museum, the Royal Palace, and many other attractions. Hotel personnel were friendly and helpful. They also have free Internet access.

Clean hotel, nice breakfast, friendly staff (they speak english - though it doesn't hurt to try some spanish). Modern bathroom. Single room was very spacious. Location - Montera is the street shared with "working girls" and their customers. It's not terrible, and not dangerous, as there are a lot of people around and a general police presence around the Sol area. But if you are staying with a family, it is not the prettiest of streets for a late night walk..

Absolutely in the heart of the action. Shopping, museums, eating, all at your feet. Some great tapas places within blocks.

Excellent room, with good large twin beds, and excellent facilities. Quiet at night, with helpful staff. Within easy 10 minutes walk of Prado and Thyssen, and similar walk to some good cafes and restaurants. Two El Corte Ingles within five minutes and major plaza at the end of the street. Definitely stay there again.
