The resort is set out well. Nice surronds and pool (although lots of biting midgies there- well it is the outback!). Beautiful correllas gather in the pool area of an afternoon. Rooms were fairly average especially for the price paid but we expected as much from anywhere in Kakadu itself. We found the dining options a bit limited. Our first night Tuesday the restaurant only offered a buffet at $35/pp or you could eat at the bar with limited options (four types of pizza or nachos, wedges or chips). Our second night the restaurant was closed, there were more options at the bar but limited seating so other patrons had to wait. For a major resort in the area we thought there should have been more dining choice for guests as you are unable to drive around to other restaurants in Kakadu.
Very happy overall, we stayed there on a last minute deal so we got the room at 45% off the normal rate. If I had to pay the normal rate I would say that it would have been very over priced. Very happy with the resturant food, our evening meal was excellent.
129 Hotel rooms can sleep up to 3 people. Rooms have a Queen and a Single with limited family rooms available - sleeping 3. Children 12yrs and younger stay free using existing bedding.
One Queen and 2 singles
Location was 44kms from Jabiru, and 80kms from the two cruises we had booked. However, I was aware of that when booking.
Aurora is quite a distance from Kakadu park especially driving at night. The airconditioning worked well there is no bath and we carried our bags upstairs we only stayed 2 nights so can't comment on over all resort.
Good
The airconditioner, an old unit failed on the 2 nights of a 3-night stay so we asked to be transferred to another room with a working aircon for the 3rd night. All staff were very friendly and helpful.
A loud power generator near a lot of the rooms. This means sitting out on the balcony is not enjoyable. The meal options are limited and expensive. The gardens and pool are very attractive. You cannot drink the water and only two small bottles of drinking water are provided. You need to buy extra drinking water.
we travelled from France for a five week holiday in Australia, we had excellent meals throughout, with one exception, your hotel; the buffet dinner (pasta buffet) was the only meal offered in the restaurant, none of it had any taste, but when it came to the only desert offered, a totally tasteless apple crumble, our conclusion was that this meal was disgraceful. My comment to the waitress, who responded that we were being insulting, was that the chef must have come directly out of the Australian army. We also did not appreciate when we noticed that the coach tour participants were given another desert... not available within the set price to other customers... we did make these comments to the reception.
Very nice room.
Having done a number of remote worldwide national park locations we were very impressed with the standard and facilities provided. We enjoyed a presentation on the indigenous culture given by one of the elders and a ranger led walk.
Restaurant food was reasonably priced and very good, although accommodation and food prices in Australia generally are high.
Restaurant staff were particularly friendly and gave an excellent service.
Great garden setting - quieter than Cooinda and Jabiru, though a 50km drive to the main 'intersections' in Kakadu Park. Old-fashioned accommodation, needing an update, but that's the Aussie bush experience!! Walls are paper-thin - can hear everything including talking-level conversations of neighbours!!
lovely place, loads of wildlife in the hotel grounds. Staff excellent and weather was very good.
The location made our stay enjoyable, very quiet and easily accessable which I required, thought the meals in the bar were boring, inso much as if you stayed 3 or more days, the meals seem repitive. The buffet was only operating one night of our stay.
The Magpie geese and wallabies on the lawn are a delightful bonus which offset the rather distant location from most of Kakadu Park activities. (If you had a boat and wished to fish on the South Alligator River, then the location would be perfect). All the staff were helpful and friendly and the rooms comfortable. However the latter were rather dingy - perhaps due to the dim lighting (would suggest higher equivalent value low watt eco-bulbs and plenty of them). The meals were reasonable, with lunch specially good value (but who's around there then anyway?) and all the staff willing to go out of their way to make one's stay enjoyable.
Very nice location! Cleanliness is not so good. Hotel should do some serious refurbishment! But . . . Facilities and service better then average!
Since there is not a lot of choice it's about the best you can get but very basic.
The decor was quite old. There are a lot of rooms (100+ in all) and it is set up like a lodge with many buildings of 7 rooms each, with dirt carparks scattered in between. The hotel is not located in Jabiru but about 40km back towards Darwin. This is fine if you are aware of it in advance.
Nice clean rooms and a good pool. Limited restaurant facilities (only the bar was open with very small menu). Quite a bit further from the attractions of Kakadu than other hotels.
