Getting there:From the City Cross the Harbour Bridge and follow the signs for Epping (do not take the Pacific Highway exit) along the Gore Hill Freeway. Continue on Epping Road and then on to the M2 Motorway. Take the 2nd exit after the toll, sign posted to Castle Hill and turn right on to Pennant Hills Road. At Thompsons Corner turn left on to Castle Hill Road and turn right at the 2nd set of traffic lights on to New Line Road. Then follow the signs for Wisemans Ferry. From the North Shore Make your way to the Pacific Highway and follow the signs to Hornsby (do not take the freeway to Gosford). In Hornsby follow the signs to Galston. You will travel a winding and picturesque road through the Galston Gorge. In Galston follow the signs to Wisemans Ferry. From Newcastle About 8km south of the Ourimbah exit on the F3 take the exit at sign for Peats Ridge. Follow signs for Peats Ridge and Wisemans Ferry. Cross the Hawkesbury River on the Wisemans Ferry (approx 60km).

NIce place, good if you play golf but overated, could do with refurbishment.
We paid the extra for a riverview room, Our room did not have a riverview it was totally blocked by trees.
We enjoyed our one night stay but the hotel lacked any real charm. It's more of a conference type hotel than a "resort". It was a little run down with some of the stated facilities nowhere to be seen.
Great spot beside the river. Nice tennis courts. Golf course nearby. Great onsite restaurant. Good for a 1-2 night stay.
I understand the meaning of the name "Retreat" now but for us it was too isolated. My husband likes fishing but the cost of hiring a boat at the one and only boatshed (that we could see anyway) was far too expensive. Apart from that, it is a nice "resort" type facility.
Found the Retreat a perfect getaway for a family or group of friends. A bit disappointed that we were not informed that the pools were 'out of use' due to maintenance but there were plenty of other facilities to use. Great to have the room serviced daily, and have airconditioning. Beautiful surrounds and so close to the local Bowling Club and Pub!
