it was an excellent place to stay with an amazing view from balccony all roos have the same tewrracew towards the bachwater. food and service were o.k. the rooms were good bathroom could be better. for that price the best in that aerea, we will come back.
The Backwater Retreat is a lovely house that has been converted into a hotel. The terraces and the view of the river are beautiful. Definitely go for the boat tour they offer for a peaceful afternoon. The food was also good - traditional Kerala fare if you don't ask the cook for something different ahead of time. The only drawback is that the rooms are fairly spartan. Ours didn't have a closet and the bathroom was built into the room as an afterthought: clean and functional but very cheaply done. Decent, cheap hotels are rare in Kerala. If you go here for the lovely setting and for lazy hours on the terrace or in a boat (staying out of the rooms), the deal is right for the price. (We paid $20 per night.)
