The name PONTA DO SOL means “Sun Point”, an apt description of this village known for its warm climate and for being one of the sunniest places in the Island. With a magnificent bay and vast forest area, this village is the inevitable choice for a rare combination of levada walks and sun bathing.
A twenty five minutes drive from the capital, Funchal, and forty minutes from the airport, PONTA DO SOL has easy access to everywhere on the Island. This historical village, played an important role in the economy during the first years of colonisation, not only due to the sugar cane production but because its pier was the only mean available for the transport of people and goods.
In 1501, PONTA DO SOL was the first place in Madeira to become Town Council.
