It's my second time at the Santo Domingo Barcelo and it was quite satisfactory. They charge $10 for Internet 24 hrs. but besides that it's good value. The japanese restaurant is excellent.
When we arrived at the hotel it literally took an 1 1/2 to check in. First we were told they were no single bed rooms, then after we agreed to just be placed in any room a single bed room was availble. The lunch buffet was hardly what i excepted and ended up paying $60.00 for a water, hard plantins, a piece of chicken and thats about it . At least the food from room service was of better quailty and price. The guestrooms i must say were very comfortable , clean and nice. I truly excepted much more from this "LINA" Barcelo Hotel because to the locals its considered a pretty big deal. BUt for this price i've stayed at much nicer hotels.
First of all, the hotel is beautiful. You are always greeted by the staff with a friendly smile. The hotel is very clean inside and out. Everything you need is available there. I recommend this hotel for everyone.
September, 2011, club premium, 9th floor room. Air Conditioning did not make the room cold. Water in the bathroom very hot with very little cold water to moderate the water temperature. Lucy and the other workers on the 9th floor were excellent. Edwin a bell hop was excellent. One guard at night named Jose was horrible, rude and nasty (he refused to give me his last name and threatened me when I said I would take a photo of him so as to identify him). Adolfo another security guard was rude and a man at the front desk named Santana, said I had to pay something like $70US dollars to have a friend see the 9th floor lounge for 5 minutes, my friend has dark skin, other times I entered with light skin friends and it was free. Location of this hotel on Maximo Gomez could be better if there were not Policia Nacional on Maximo Gomez who try to rob tourists like me driving a car. US Consulate nearby does not deter the policia nacional on maximo gomez at night from trying to rob tourists driving cars. Most Dominicans say the Police in Dom Rep are thieves and me being a native New Yorker, I experienced it first hand many times in Dominican Republic with the Policia Nacional trying to get my money. If you want to drive your own car at night and stay at the Barcelo Santo Domingo, you will be stopped, harassed, threatened and robbed by the Policia Nacional at night on Maximo Gomez (has been going on for years, complaints made to the US Consulate have no effect). If Policia Nacional on motorcycles try to stop you on Maximo Gomez and you are close to the Hotel Barcelo Santo Domingo, you should drive into the Hotel's parking lot. I did that twice and the policia nacional who were going to rob me would not enter the hotel parking lot. Pool is nice. Many of the workers are nice. Seems night brings out the worst in some workers at the hotel and with the Policia in the streets. 9th floor lounge is nice, beer, soda, water, coffee, red and wine white are free. Jacuzzi on the ninth floor deck is nice and is open till 11pm.
The hotel was really nice even better than it looks on the website. The staff was nice except for the guy at the check-in desk. Try to get the deal that includes breakfast because we had to pay for breakfast everyday and it can get a little pricey. Besides that the piano bar was really nice with live music the pool is very nice and the casino is average but something to do. Overall worth the money if you need to be close to the center of the city.
Excellent hotel to stay at have stay here before and this time was happy to see how they have up graded this hotel very nice - staff like always helpful and friendly
please put a note that the hotel are in renovation, you can take a rest after lunch,it is noisy,or don't put guest on the floor that are in renovation it is boring
