Overall its a great hotel, I would rate it much higher compared to other similare hotels in this category. its location is great, very easy access to underground tube, busses, resturants, central London, direct tube to Heathrow etc. Hotel staff is good. Overall it is value for money.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at this hotel, which is located in the South Kensington neighborhood in London. The hotel is located right across the street from the Earl's Court Tube stop, on the Picadilly Line, so access to all of London and beyond is great. Our impression of the hotel was that they were doing a good job of updating & maintaining this collection of converted row-houses, which is typical of small London hotels. Our room featured a full bath, which was very clean and in good condition. As well, it was not a "Water Closet", which we'd run into our last time in London. (where a small closet is converted into a bathroom, without being enlarged) So, overall, we give this hotel two thumbs up, and would definitely stay again.
We can recommend this hotel to all London visitors.
Hotel is good value for the money (when booked through Hotel Club). The hotel was chosen for its proximity to Earl's Court Underground Station (Piccadilly line to Heathrow airport and District line to other required destinations) hence its "very good" (for me) location rating. Bathroom in room 400 needs a shaving light.
Good value accommodation in excellent location for access to city and airport.
the shower was poor for pressure and temperature and it is sad to see that the hotel bar has reduced its draught selection to carlings with all the good english ales, i wonder why. we have stayed at barkston gardens many times over the past 10 years but will definitely look for other accommodations in teh future.
Carpets are old and smelly. Did not get a wake up call for 3 am as promised. Luckily I woke up at 3:30 for 4 am taxi to get to the train station.
Very close to Earls Court underground station. Floor boards noisy when people on the floor above move about. Overall, well worth the money
Hotel just 2 minutes walk from Earls Court station; and just off a main street, so food avaialble for purchase. Quite an old place, but in reasonable condition. A bath was available.
Hotel was nice if but a little dated. It all seemed to require a fresh coat of paint or wallpaper. Our bedroom was spacious but the chairs could have done with re-stuffing! It was fine for what we wanted - one night's stay after a concert at the Royal Albert Hall and fell within our budget. It is very convenient for Earls court tube station - not even a 5 minute walk. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was fine as well.
Good value for money. The decor could be improved in the corridors, but the facilities in the room were fine. It would be better if continental breakfast were to be included in the price, with an upgrade to full English available.
I have stayed here on a couple of occasions: On each occasion I have had good service, and good food, although I do not enjoy the "rugby scrum" to obtain it from the buffet! It is a shame that the hotel is so shabby and tired. I think it could do with a good clean too.
Lovely old style hotel, in perfect location. Particularly liked the breakfast waiter, very welcoming.Made us all feel special and well looked after. Excellent value
Staff unfriendly and aloof; i can't recall one pleasantry or thank you from anyone in my 3 nights there; rooms very small and no frills; rooms have a table top fan (pointless most of the year), but no clock radio...and they thought me ridiculous when i requested one.
A very good quality hotel for the money, a decent continental breakfast, comfortable bed and fairly quiet, recommended for a London visit
Stayed twice at this hotel. Location is great. On the picadilly tube line so convenient to get to/from Heathrow. 2 min walk to Earls Court Station. Hotel is a bit old. Rooms starting 100 are in the basement. bathroom is clean but a bit mouldy. Basement rooms facing the street get noisy as you hear the conversation of people walking on the street above. Lydie at reception is fantastic & gave us a room on level 5 for our next stay when we mentioned the noise factor. Breakfast is simple - toast, coffee/tea, rolls, ham, cheese etc but is filling. Free internet but not reliable. Would stay there again. PG, Australia, Mar-Apr 2008
Good value for money. Excellent situated, okay breakfast and free internet. A bit old, but cosy. (Denmark)
Exceptionally good value for London, decent sized double room, with bath as a single for £63, quiet location, efficient, reasonable breakfast, will stay again
Stayed Feb 08. I was given a double room for my single booking. Rooms were spacious with good facilities. Decor and furnishings looked tired and dated. Bed comfortable and linen & towels clean and in good condition. Bathrooms dirty looking in parts (tile grouting, fittings), due to age mainly. This hotel needs a refurbishment, especially upstairs. Then if it did the price would undoubtly rise. Good value and central location. Head waiter in dining room was excellent. Breakfast good, but fresh orange tasted watered down.
Barkston Gardens offers an excellent breakfast. Frendly staff when you get to know them. Location to shops & public transport is excellent. Would definately stay there again. Room, including the bathroom, could do with an update.
