Bayview Chateau Tongariro Guest Reviews

Lovely hotel due for renovation in the later part of 2011. Highly recommended and may get better with the new look!

Lovely lovely stay at the Chateau. I highly recommend this to anyone going to Whakapapa. We were a little apprehensive of the price at first, but it was all well worth it. Rooms were exquisite and brought us back to the good old days of the colonial era. The wood work was marvellous, and the carpets and drapery (although musty) reminded me of the charming days of the Titanic. The windows offered wonderful views at any time of the day, and were like frames to the changing weather. Our room had a nicely refurbished bathroom, a fridge, coffee making machine, and a good-sized wardrobe. There were also in-house movies (pretty old though) which you could watch from the comfort of your bed. Service was excellent, and the staff promptly responded to all our requests with a smile. The hotel, needless to say, is well located, on the slopes of Ruapehu. Beautiful, beautiful vistas from the golf course. The main hall also has a window arch that overlooks the Ngauruhoe. Totally magical.

This was a wonderful experience. The staff, facilities and food could not more fantastic. A lovely step back in time to an era of true service. Would be more than happy to return to this beautiful Chateau. Thank you so much to the staff for making our stay such a pleasure.

The hotel rooms are quite run down. A hotel of that level should have perfect rooms. The bathroom ceiling was peeling off. The carpet was completely used to the underlay. However, the view from the room window was excellent.

High prices for not so high quality: old furniture, poor cleaning service (stained bed linen), not enough parking spaces (we needed to park on the street, far away from the hotel) We wont go back!

The hotel is in an unforgettable setting with plenty of facilities. Although we had a problem with poor service in the Terrace restaurant, the management were quick to make up for it and are to be commended for that. Breakfast was a highlight and the setting is stunning. We would be pleased to go back again.

We stayed for 3 days at Christmas, our room was a premium room and excellent. A few things were not up to standard, we had no cups in our room for tea etc, there was a lack of communication re dinner bookings which could have been avoided. We ventured downstairs to the poorly sign posted 'pool' expecting a swimming pool but found a very uninviting 'hot pool' - hence we did not go in it. In all we had a nice break but the Ruepehu Room restaurant is overpriced and the other choice of dinner venue as univiting as the pool!

We stayed ion November, and had a 3rd floor room in the roof space. It was large & comfortable. However it was very warm-hot, the rooms didn't appear to have airconditioning and it wan't being heated at the time - so beware if considering a mid summer stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chateau. Very nice facilities. The olde world charm was lovely. The only area I would say that needs attention is the pool. It could do with being updated and a bit hotter. Otherwise everything was great.
