Fox Glacier is the largest and longest of the West Coast Glaciers, grinding its way from the heart of the Southern Alps down into temperate rainforest just 12km from the Tasman Sea. There are excellent views of New Zealands's highest peaks, Aoraki and Mt Tasman from Fox township. Nearby Lake Matheson is renowed for its reflections of New Zealand's highest mountains. Lake Matheson has an excellent walking track around it for all fitness levels.Fox Glacier has a rich variety of walks for all levels, including the glacier valley walk that takes you to the terminal face of this icy giant.

Stayed overnight at Bella Vista Fox Glacier and was delighted with our choice. We were running late so called the office and they arranged to leave our room unlocked with fresh milk in the fridge. Room was spotlessly clean and well appointed considering the price. On checkout the manager was extremely helpful with recommendations on breakfast spots (Lake Matheson Cafe - highly recommended) and best locations to view the glacier. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bella Vista for a short stay in Fox Glacier.
