Wonderful staff, excellent service. Great building, and a very interesting history. As I was on a business trip I didn't have time to take advantage of the Country Park but intend returning for a long relaxing weekend.
This hotel was a real favourite with us, will definitely stay again. We were upgraded to the Queen Mary Room, what a treat. Great location, beautiful surroundings. For people with limited mobility though, there was only a chairlift.
Hotel is a little hard to find. The room was recently refurbished and had a very modern bathroom. The only (slight) problem is no lift and if you are on the top flight it is a lot of steps with heavy bags.
The attention paid by the staff was exemplary and made the hotel compare favourably with some other large group hotels. A lift would be good though!
Good looking building but the maintanance on the rooms was not up to scratch (milldew on wall paper and ratteling windows letting the wind in and the heating not left on after 10pm and not back on until 8am) and we were not informed of the restricted menu on reserving a table and due to location were stuck to a grill menu to which the chef was unable to make a basic pepper sauce or the waitress was full of it and did not care about the customers needs.
An historic building with many unusual features, very relaxing.
Staff were friendly and speed of service was also good.
A really interesting and unusual hotel, and I am glad I stayed there. It's an old nineteenth century hunting lodge with lots of oak panelling and ambience. The room however was very clean and with a brand new tiled bathroom. I ate in the restaurant, with an honest if uninspired menu, the food was good. The location is a bit out of town. But once there it was a tranquil haven in a country park (south end of the old Sherwood forest although being encroached on by housing estates). So if you like being able to go for a long run in the woods at the end of a stressful day, followed by a drink in the bar and a meal in a characterful hotel, this is for you. Pricing very reasonable (breakfast included) and staff friendly and helpful.
