Hotel was well located with regard to Barrio Alto. No free internet in lobby, which is poor form. Breakfast was sufficient but quite bland. I didn't like the basement level where breakfast was served. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Beds were not too comfortable - quite hard and the small of my back was at me after a few nights sleeping in them. Cleaning staff were great.
Exellent hotel; all the staff were most helpful - with nothing too much trouble for them. A special mention for Paulo who very kindly arranged for us to change our room. I have stayed in 4 & 5 star hotels and received far less attention. Spotlessly clean. Just a pity they didn't put in double glazing when the hotel was updated. Luckily it is not on a main road but the bin wagons and very early morning mobile calls from local residents could cause a problem with light sleepers, (hence our change of room). Nontheless, it is one of the very few hotels I would have no hesitation in recommending.
Totally renewed rooms -2006-The modern rooms have daring Miró carpeting where our clients can enjoy cable TV from our 23 inch Lcd monitors. All rooms have entry with magnetic card, air conditioning, direct phone, radio alarm-clockwith cd and mp3 player, digital safe and mini-bar.
The hotel is everything other reviewers say: helpful staff, excellent breakfast, spotlessly clean. It's location is a problem, though. The hill is not - come on folks, a 5 minute walk up a slope is not a big deal (I am in my 50's, not fit, and yet did it with ease). The problem is the surroundings. There are homeless people and drunks who sleep in the park you have to walk past to get to the hotel. The streets are filthy. I did not feel safe walking alone in the evening in this area.
An excellent hotel. Very close to the centre of town, and the service was nothing short of excellent. Some of the reviewers complain about the climb up the hill to the hotel - this is nothing really and takes barely 5 mins. Highly recommend this hotel.
The hotel is centrally located, but will require some hill walking. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. The beds are rather small for two but all other facilities were great.
I really enjoyed my stay here. The rooms were very clean and adequate, the breakfast was excellent, and the staff are extremely helpful if you ask them; if you have a problem and tell them about it (everyone speaks fairly good English), they will fix it with a smile. It's about a 7-minute walk to the main squares at Rossio and Praca da Figueira where you can pick up the trolleys/buses and everything else, and there are metro stops within 3 minutes of the hotel. I imagine this hotel is quieter than some of the ones on the main squares, since it's up a side street; ask for a room in the rear of the hotel high up for max quietness, as sometimes cars honk when there is a holdup, and I did hear dogs barking sometimes. If you get a single, some of the rooms have an extremely small shower, ie not really big enough to shave your legs in, but they do have larger singles that they will switch you to if they have them available. If I come back to Lisbon, I will definitely stay here.
wonderful staff. excellent complimentary breakfast. memorable stay. can be a little noisy sometime though.
Excellent reception.Very good breakfast.Service is of a 5 star standard.Look forward to staying in Botanico again.
Nice hotel with good facilities and service. Excellent location, close to the city-center at a quiet street. Good value for the money!
Since the hotel is on a hill getting back to the hotel from the city centre by foot is quite tiring, otherwise its clean and the service is good and also the breakfast is good.
and i was greatly surprised by the 'welcome Porto'. Great after a long and cold way.
the servive is good, the location is on the hill top. if u don't mind to walk up slope, it is great location. the breakfast is great! better than those 4 star hotel
Wonderfully picturesque location, vegetarian restaurant just down the road. Room is small, but who stays in their room in Lisbon? Breakfast room is a bit of a dungeon, but that's normal in Europe. I certainly intend to use it again next time I go to Lisbon.
We enjoyed our stay at the Botanico and would recommend it to our friends and also would go back should we visit Lisbon in the future. The staff were very friendly and helpful, which made our stay more enjoyable. It was situated up a slight hill which was good exercise but could be limiting to those who struggle with walking as the only way up there would be taxi. The room was slightly smaller than what I'm used to but there was enough space to put clothes and accessories for the 4 days we were there. The only downfall was our room was in between the two lifts they had so anyone coming back late or going out early could wake you up if you're a light sleeper like myself. Other than that, we had a great time in Lisbon.
The receptionists (esp. Ricardo) were very friendly and helpful. Gave extra information about touristic places and sights to see. Breakfast room was a little bit cool, needs some heating in winter.
Free wi-fi internet conection
Very good value for money... very helpful staff, nice and friendly environment and a great buffet for breakfast. The hotel is very centrally located but as it near a dead end the rooms are very quiet and you cannot hear the traffic. I think it is an excellent choice overall for someone who does not need a lot of luxury and wants to find a hotel with a decent price and a decent service and facilities.
Value for money. Excellent breakfast.
Good value and great breakfast.
NICE AND FRIENDLY STANDARD HOTEL WITH A VERY CENTRAL LOCATION AND POSITIVE STAFF.
