The hotel building is an example of Venice’s minor architecture, but preserves the fascination of the ancient city. The Barbaro family came to Venice from Rome in 868, and members of the family fought in battle as Venetian army commanders or served as diplomats engaged in complicated relations with the Republic’s overseas possessions. As you come in by the distinctive courtyard with the well bearing the family name, you will be engulfed in the intimate and very particular atmosphere of a Venice of the past. Walking under the archway leading to the water gate on the Rio di Ca' Dolce, you will be carried back to the age of gondolas moving to and from among the palaces, mysterious custodians of amorous intrigues and conspiracies. The original 13th century beams and marble features in the space used as the reception hall have been preserved in perfect condition by careful restoration, and the chandelier and splendid antique mirror are specimens of the sublime skill of the master glaziers of Murano.

Getting there:From Marco Polo Airport Number 5 ACTV public transport bus to the Piazzale Roma terminal (35 minutes) Ca’ d’Oro stop (15 minutes) A water taxi will take you to the hotel water gate in Rio di Ca' Dolce in 30 minutes From the Piazzale Roma terminal or Venice Santa Lucia railway station Number 1 ACTV water bus to the Ca’d’Oro stop (15 minutes and 12 minutes respectively) Water taxi to the hotel water gate in Rio di Ca' Dolce, 10 to 15 minutes From the Tronchetto car park and terminal Number 82 ACTV water bus to Piazzale Roma, then change on to Number 1 to Ca' d’Oro (30 minutes altogether) Water taxi to the hotel water gate in Rio di Ca' Dolce, 20 minutes From the Ca' d’Oro water bus stop At the end of the narrow lane leading from the water bus stop turn right, then go straight on for about 200 metres as far as a small square, Campo Santi Apostoli; turn left and the hotel is 100 metres along inside a courtyard, Corte Barbaro.

Excellent warm hotel, Staff very friendly and helpful, Good sized rooms (bigger than other hotels we have stayed in in Venice), 5 minute walk to the Rialto bridge. Easy to find from the Ca'd'ora water bus stop. Breakfasts adequate but limited selection. We would recommend this hotel.
The hotel was in an ideal location, the room was one of the best we have stayed in in Italy. Excellent value for money. Large room with 2 big windows, and large bathroom also with window. We were on 4th floor and could walk out to rooftop terrace. Breakfast was lovely and staff efficient
Reception on arrival left a little to be desired but front desk staff thereafter helpful. Breakfast excellent.Room extremly small but if all you want is a bed to sleep in the facilities were excellent. Easy walking distance to special sites. Quiet small canal provided interest from the window.
Good location near many sights. My room was small and clean. Breakfast a little disappointing. Best feature is the small roofdeck. A good value if your rate is heavily discounted.

Venice is expensive ! I would recomend everyone with a limited economy to chose this hotel in the Cannaregio area. Value for money.
