Caboose Lodge & Conference Centre Hotel Taupo Guest Reviews

3 out of 5

We were pretty happy with this place. It was in a great location - right on the water of Lake Taupo. There was a strange safari theme to the place, although it was very recently (i.e. a few days before we got there) changed ownership. According to one of the staff, we got an "amazing" deal on the price, so thanks!

I was in one of the smaller rooms. Everything was very clean and the proprietors very pleasant and helpful. Great value and warm on a cold winters night.

We have stayed here a few times now, always friendly clean and helpful, easy walk to Taupo central, rooms to the rear so no traffic noise and the bar/food areas are comfortable with lovely views. A real character to the place, definately recommend. Also excellent value for money.

The above feedback is for the room only - we didn't use all the facilities the hotel had to offer. We were on a last minute deal in peak season so pricing was good. Only negative was the room size and orientation (ie. very little daylight) but we spent alot of time away from the hotel so it didn't matter so much. Excellent service - especially the chamber maids, better than some 4-5 star hotels in big cities we have stayed at. Great location relative to the town, but little opportunity for many of the rooms to have any lake outlook.

Apart from an oversight with soap in the bathroom this was a great stay - extended it to two nights so that says something! Great hosts whom we enjoyed talking to.

The decor in the bedroom was interesting. It was unusual to have an African theme in New Zealand.

Although the room was pretty nice and clean, it was by far the smallest room we ve ever had during our 4 months travel. There was barely space next to the bed to go to the bathroom. No space at all to put the luggage anywhere, and the same story in the bathroom where there was no space to put the toilet bag or anything else. The breakfast itself as well as the service were rather poor and the staff there very unfriendly. The staff of the reception although was friendly and helpful.

The hotel was well themed and was a little different than anything else we had stayed in New Zealand. The main downside wa steh noise within the room. We could hear all the noise from either side and felt in the morning that we heard everyone in teh hotel take a shower.

The room was extremely small with minimal appointments. There was no fridge in the room, no cupboards to hang clothes, suitcases need edto be put under the bed. There was no airconditioning or central heating. The electric blanket and heater had an extension lead under the bed which had to be snaked across the floor to reach a powerpoint. The resturant had very good service but food was average in quality.
