Carmen Hotel Budapest Guest Reviews

4.4 out of 5

The hotel concierge was very helpful in advising me on tourist attractions and obtaining best value tickets for transportation and entertainment. This is not a five star hotel, but a quaint and comfortable hotel. It suited my purpose very well since I spent the daytime hours in and about the city of Budapest. The hotel is located about a ten minute bus ride from downtown. There are no upper end restaurants near the hotel, but one can obtain breakfast at places that local use. Overall thepricing for all aspects of my visit to Budapest was more economical than Cologne Germany.

Price great, service, couldn't fault it. Location fabulous:- 173 bus from Keleti station, 10mins walk to metro, 6 to tram stop... OK... for the 1st time i had to pay the balance there rather than pay thru here... they do not take credit cards so have HUF or EUR with you in cash. ROOM-the spring was loose in the bed so digging into me until i put another quilt under me. NO satellite TV: 8 channels, only 3 worked and were all in Hungarian... not an issue really but it was advertised as satellite in all rooms. I put my empty bag on top of the cupboard- bad mistake as it was covered in dust. Also very very thin walls.... R-rated soundtrack the 1st night, thankfully only for a few minutes. Had the location been worse or the staff unpleasant I would have gone elsewhere... as it was I was only there for 1 whole day, 2 nights, so I stayed put without complaint. I would however NOT stay there again. The price was OK.... the 3 star rating was VERY optimistic.

Nice place, old but functional. Staff we're good, still a bit of a problem with English but overall good service. Great resturant nearby, but like all of Budapest dont expect any internet or laundry service anywhere thats any good.

The room was simple and clean though the carpet was pretty worn in places - the bathroom facilities were particularly good for the price. Only complaint was the cold coffee at breakfast - 5 days in a row!

We had 4 double rooms, all the same - bathrooms need refurbishment. Location was O.K. near bus station, possible to walk to subway.

The staff was great. George gave us a lot of help. We booked the hotel online for two nights, and ended up staying for more than a week because it was such a convenient location and we were so pleased to be staying there. I highly recommend it.
