Petroia Castle is a conglomerate of medieval buildings closed within Castle walls.
There are many documents that verify the origins of the Castle, the most important being a decree of the holy Roman Emperor Frederick I, called Barbarossa (Redbeard), dated November 8, 1163.
Since it is situated on a strategic location between Gubbio and Perugia overlooking the Chiascio valley, it was the scene of many important events of the XII, XIII and XIV centuries
