Great location and the amenities are good for the price. Gets a bit rowdy at the weekend.
Reception was rather terse, not particularly willing or welcoming. I found the environs of the pool a bit seedy, very backpacky, very noisy, which was not what I was expecting. Consequently was pleasantly surprised by my room - very clean, comfortable and pretty quiet. Behaviour in the pool was allowed to be a bit excessive (footy trips!) Food OK, but nothing special. Nothing in the advertising had led me to expect the style of the pub, which would be my main point.
Quiet and central location. Good value for money.
Our experience was good, but a fellow guest's was not. Many of the rooms are off a balcony above the bar and these rooms are very noisy, particularly if there is a singer or band. Fortunately our room was at the back of the hotel, and noise was no problem.
Really good place to relax and party at the same time. Great service and help.
A very good place to stay at a reasonable price.
More of a youth hostel than a hotel, the "Cav" is a pub that has renovated its old hotel wing into modern budget accommodation. The location is perfect for exploring Darwin, the rooms are clean and the staff are friendly. The pool area is also nice, right next to the bar area. However, if you're looking for a quiet place to relax at the end of a long day, and it's a weekend and/or event season in Darwin, it's probably not for you. Some rooms are located above the pub, resulting in loud noise resonating through the room until midnight. There's also a lack of noise insulation within the rooms and hallways - a large gap under our door meant that the rabble of drunk idiots staying there for the Supercars kept us awake. Darwin's accommodation prices are out of control during the dry season so I didn't really expect the Cav to charge less than what they do for simple 2.5 / 3 star accommodation - but by normal standards, $170 a night for budget accommodation is RIDICULOUS.
Hotel was very conveniently situated to transport (buses) and provided good service in that the staff were very polite and helpful. I did not like the backpacker atmosphere.
good value for Darwin. No lift so wonder about disabled access. Nice cheerful feel.
Cheap food at the Bar. Fantastic Pool. Very comfy.
Spent two nights widweek at this hotel on a business trip to Darwin. When I arrived, the girl on reception was very helpful and efficient, gave me my hotel key and when I got to the room, it had not been cleaned. Another visit to reception later and room was cleaned promptly. My room was at the front of the hotel and as the bar is open until 2am, the place was extremely noisy, coupled with the clientele being predominantly back-packers, 4-5am was their leaving time for coach trips, so little sleep was achieved. Room was relatively comfortable, but lacked a few facilities (including internet connection). Location was good - within CBD, but parking was poor - a handful of spaces tucked around the corner and metal barriers on them provided an interesting obstacle course. On the whole, a very basic hotel in need of a serious refurb and overpriced. I'll be unlikely to choose this hotel again.
The room had no windows but the cleanliness and freshness made it bearable. It was a bit like a bats cave but the price was right and very fair for that type of room. Outside it very much seemed like a backpackers hostel. But I am an ex Darwin local who returned for a funeral so I loved the central location and of course the clean room and price. Would stay there again if I was travelling solo, but not a place for my family.
Too expensive for an average hotel. Travelodge is a lot cheaper and a lot better. Suitable only for backpackers. Nothing fancy!
We found the service here to be fantastic and the staff so freindly and helpful. The Hotel rooms have been redone are basic but nice. Can get a bit noisy as it is also a backbackers. For breakfast very good and great coffee. I would suggest that you book through the hotel as this service charged us way to much for a standard room, which we upgraded to a deluxe with no extra charge. Have booked for next year.
Room accommodation cost is too high for the sort of room facilities offered. In addition, the rooms are next to the swimming pool and this can be noisy. Additionally if the room is also near the pub area, then it can get rowdy and very noisy well into the night.
Great place to stay. Rooms were great, very clean! Good vibe around the place.
Excellent place to stay very central to most activities, excellent atmosphere will definatly stay there again.
What a fantastic place to stay. Excellent customer service and a great area to socialize with other guests. All staff are happy and easygoing which makes for happy customers. I will return to stay at this hotel.
