Central Railway Hotel & Apartments Sydney Guest Reviews

4 out of 5

Hotel met all our requirements especially on account of location and price. Only two criticisms - web page does not indicate price of off street parking provision - $22 per night and front rooms are extremely noisy especially early in morning. Next time will ask for one of back rooms. Good value on all other accounts and would stay again

The hotel was pretty much as I'd expected for the price- clean and comfortable but quite a way from Central Station. The guy on reception was exceptionally helpful and friendly but some of the other guests were noisy at 2 am and reception closes at 9 so you're on your own if you want to take them on. Parking is good. We had no trouble finding a spot on the street.

The room is quite clean, nothing smells funny which sometimes you would expect from a not so expensive hotel, though when we turned our bed side lamp on during the night, we could see clearly a bit of dust flying around. We don't need too much facilities, because we only in the hotel during the night and we have kids to travel with but they do have kitchenette, TV (only limited channel though and not digital), microwave which was useful, the bathroom was new and very clean. The receptionists were friendly and willing to help. The brochure says that it takes 5 mins walk from Central to the hotel, well we always spent 15 mins in our normal pace.

The room was out the back away which was away from traffic noise. No problem there. The main window had only thin curtains so during the night the outside courtyard lights shone through strongly. It was disturbing as the bed was right under the window. Also, the bed was very hard. The water pressure was extremely low and the hot water service didn't appear to work properly. It was lukewarm at most. I gave up on having a shower as getting a decent temperature was impossible. The room was on the bottom floor and you could hear all the movements of the people upstairs. Even through ear-plugs it was audible. The service was friendly and the room was clean. It all comes down to what you're looking for.

The hotel can be very hard to find unless you really know where to look and, because it is on a one way street, if you miss it you will spend a lot of time driving around the blocks to find it. My advice would be to call ahead and get the exact directions. Rooms were simple but comfortable and in a good location, with the main train station for Sydney about a 5 min walk down the road. There was really friendly service and I would defiantly stay here again.

It was difficult to find the hotel due to the strange one-way traffic system. The map on the website was not helpful nor clear. There was a charge for Parking not indicated on the booking form

Surprisingly quiet even though we were on Chalmers Street which appears to be a main road and our room faced the street. Basic but comfortable accommodation
