Chic & Basic Colors Hostal Madrid Guest Reviews

4.8 out of 5

Overall ideal for quality and cost. Do note that there is no elevator located here - so pack lite or be ready to carry your bags up many flights of stairs. Great location. Do however stay in an "apartment" if you want to sleep peacfully, as other rooms are located just off busy streets. Staff were kind and helpful. Once arriing in Madrid - take the Metro to the Anton Martin Station for the closest transfer.

Strong positives: A clever concept just providing simple facilities with clean unfussy lines (no unnecessary facilities that one doesn't need, or fussy interiors). Very good location in my favourite part of Madrid. Friendly staff. Availability of water and coffee in the communal area very considerate and a great feature. The discreetness of the hostal from the street also good (as if you are entering a private apartment building, not some anonymous hotel). Will definitely consider staying again next time in Madrid. Minor gripes: wi-fi access not available from rooms (signal too weak for access via own laptops); springs on bed quite prominent and slightly uncomfortable; some elements need maintenance (eg - door handles loose, paint on walls scuffed).

Excellent central location; only 3 mins walk to SOL and 5 min walk to Prado museum. Lots of nightlife around there; and so the room can be quite noisy until early hours of morning - windows block out most noise but if noise worries you; bring earplugs. Great Hotel.

I cannot fault the hostal itself, or the friendliness of staff however, be warned that the street is extremely noisy at night especially at weekends. During my stay there, I found that I could not sleep at night owing to the singing and shouting carrying on until about 7am. I would certainly stay here again, but would ask for a back facing room

This is a very funky hotel in the center of Madrid. The people are very nice and gentle, the facilities are great (free Nespresso, drinks, breakfast and desserts) and the atmosphere is relaxed. The rooms are all styled and colorful. You can enter all night with a digital key. If you don't mind making your own breakfast, and don't need a host to welcome you at night this place is great for you!

This is good value and much more hip than your average budget hotel. It's almost got a posh boutique hotel feel, but without the prices. The only drawback with this hostal is that it is VERY noisy. If your room is facing Las Huertas beware, as this is a main going out area. Probably even worse though is noise from inside the hostal -the fact that the rooms/doors are not soundproofed means that in the morning you can hear every word of the conversation in the main entrance and kitchen which was literally right outside our room door. Overall, it's a great find, but not the place to go if you're a light sleeper!

It is a nice and friedly hostel with an own vision and philosophy in one of the greatest streets in Madrid. The owners are nice people. Breakfast is simple. It is on second floor without elevator, so: with heavy luggage it is a challenge. It is situated with many famous sights and a lot of nice restaurants and bars on walking distance. Try f.e. housenumbers 18 and 22. And the nabours are a nice shop with Mexican stuff - very good. (november 2006)

Chic & Basic has been the perfect choice: wonderful attention from the staff, privacy, freedom of movement and the comforts of th meeting point (which is almost heaven for a tea/internet addict like me). I plan to stay there again in the future, in spite of its paper walls. I found the room a little noisy, but it was an 8 from 10, anyway. I'll remain grateful to Jorge, the cuban conciérge. He was kind, welcoming and effective in a deluge morning in Madrid.

Excellent hotel. Main problem was climbing flight of stairs with suitcase. Well located near Atocha for easy transportation. Friendly staff, easy to meet people.

We had a fabulous stay in Madrid at the 7 Colors Rooms. The room was really funky and awesome. There is free internet and food all day. The staff were friendly and helpful too. Location was central to all the bars and cafes. The towels were the fluffiest!

It was a really nice place – modern style rooms in an older building. The free food for breakfast and snacks as well as free internet was great. I had one complaint – I was there in August and the air-conditioning was run all day but was turned off at about 1.30 am. This meant the rooms got really stuffy as I had the windows closed to keep in the cool air and made it difficult to sleep at night.

What an experience! 7 Colors Rooms provide excellent service and wonderful facilities with access to internet and snacks throughout the day and evening. Location is six minutes from Sol metro and behind a lovely square which caters for all dining needs. Truly outstanding in every respect and surely the measure for all such accommodation around the world.
