City Matyas Hotel Budapest Guest Reviews

3 out of 5

For the location and price, I can't complain about Matyas. We had a double twin room and the beds were tiny with one pillow each, TV was tiny and only had one English channel (CNN) and shower was pretty small - but hey, it's Europe. No amenities but the adjacent restaurant (where breakfast is served) is one of the city's more notable ones. Probably not worth it to pay for the breakfast though, unless you plan on gorging yourself and skipping lunch. Hotel is super close to the Elizabeth bridge and Danube promenade and walking distance to most attractions (if you like to walk).

4 out of 5

This hotel is your basic hotel, perhaps closer to a 2-star in amenities but the location was in the heart of the city. You could walk to everything. Everything else in that area is super expensive so we considered this a pretty good deal. It was clean and the staff friendly. I'd stay there again.

This hotel is ina good area near the Elizabeth bridge. The entrance is through an apartment doorwaz that is not kept locked. The reception is off to the left on entrz, no visibility of staff from entrance. The rooms are through a securitz door to the right. This may be an issue for single travellers as it is quite isolated and dim. The breakfast is served in the "dungeon" restaurant, all vaultd ceilings and medieval frescoes. It is a good breakfast. Only drawback to this hotel is the entrance and location of reception.

Rooms are good and clean BUT the entry and stairs are frightening; dark, dirty and falling apart. Also the Hotel is not at the advertised location. The advertised location is a pile of ruins of a mediaeval castle. The hotel is very nearby but you need to hunt to find it ..... look at the surrounding tops of buildings and you will see the name.

Our bed linens were too small for the mattress. The room was clean. Our friends room smelled like rotting apples. The breakfast was very good and plentiful. The breakfast room was most impressive. The beautiful artwork on the walls and beautiful table linens and the furnishings were very tasteful.

The location of this hotel was its main strongpoint being within walking distance of the river, many fine restaurants and some of the major tourist attractions of the city. Staff were helpful and efficient. However the room, while clean, was rather austere, unnattractive and in need of refurbishment.

The personal in the hotel was very receptive and demonstrated willingnes to help. We were unsatisfied with the bedding in our room and to their credit they were willing to listen to us and to find a solution. Brekfasts are really good, however the restaurant offers mediocre food at the premium price. Live Gypsy music does not help it. For the money, if you are spending time outside hotel, this is not a bad choice

The location of City hotel Matyas is excellent, just beside the pedestrian street Vaci Utca with its shops and cafes. The famous Market Hall is few minutes walk away and public transport within easy reach. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are a bit dated, but clean with a/c and minibar and yes, views to Danube and Castle Hill are just amazing! If you prefer quietness, ask for rooms facing the little side street. Breakfast is served in beautiful Matyas Pince restaurant and nearby you will find many nice and cosy places to eat! From airport taxi company Zona will take you to hotel with 3500 HUF and back with 4000 HUF. This is less than the Airport Minibus services charges, if you are two or more! City hotel Matyas offers you good value for your money.

An excellent location in the centre of Pest. The hotel was clean and nicely furniushed. We had a problem with the central heating in our room and we were moved to another room immediately. We would stay here again and would recommend it to friends. Slightly on the down side, tea v/ coffeee making facilities would have been welcome especially when we wenr (January) it was very cold outside and a hot coffeee when we returned would have been appreciated.

This hotel is well linked to the airport by the Airport Minibus service (about 30 minutes drive). The restaurant is quite nice, although the service is not so great.
