The Clearwater Motel on the waterfront offers fully self contained (includes a kitchen) studios and family units. The "sea-view" units have fantastic views of the ocean and mountains and can sleep 1 to 6 people. Most motel units have excellent views of the mountains and ocean and are within walking distance to the town centre & restaurants. 100 meters to the swimming pool and childrens playground.

Fabulous location. Superb view from Waterfront room. Pleasant welcome. An old motel but comfortable.
Very basic and very tired accomodation - traditional Kiwi Motel circa 1970. Price was OK and location excellent. Probably would try another place next time

Waterfront 2 bedroom and separate lounge. Can sleep 2 to 6, self-contained, kitchen, private bathroom, excellent views of mountains and ocean from your room.
As close as any of the motels to town. View of the beach. Our room was in a converted house. Not a brand new place but cosy and clean. A wee bit rough around the edges but you get that being close to the sea. Friendly, helpful staff.
Outstanding position having beautiful sea views. The unit was very old and decor very dated. Average value for money.

Comfortable bed, clean and tidy budget accommodation
Stayed for two nights. Location was brilliant on the waterfront.(Nice and quiet and no traffic at night) Lacked a compendium (to outline the features available in Kaikoura - always great to have when you are not familiar with the area.) Only had a sofa, a couple of lounge chairs would have been nice. Water pressure in the shower was poor. No shampoo or conditioner in bathroom. A no frills place to stay. Would recommend if you need somewhere to stay without all the trimmings and the price tag to go with it.
Fantastic location. Right on the beach front. Views to die for. Managers and cleaning staff very friendly and helpful. Unit spotlessly clean. Towels refreshed daily (nice and thick). Only criticism is the noise level emanating from the next unit (and probably vise-versa). The shared dividing wall appears not have any noise deadening insulation.
Wonderful view
This is more of a comfort rating than anything. The owner was nice and friendly. The sofa was really really uncomfortable ( and we were only trying to sit on it to watch TV ). The TV reception was really bad, and only got 3 very grainy channels. The view was awesome. Everything else was fine.

This Motel is what you need if on a budget, clean, tidy, friendly owners, excellent location, but is at the more basic end of the market.
A nice view from the living room and a friendly owner. Space to park the car at the side of the house. An odd smell coming from the carpets though.
Enjoyed our two night stay at the Clearwater. Staff were friendly and informative. Tv reception could have been better.

A modest accommodation with great outlook and very friendly service.
We were not put into the studio unit we booked, but into half of the original house on the property. All the facilities were there but because of the cold weather it took a long time to heat up. The water was lovely and hot, but the shower was very difficult to adjust either too hot or too cold. Not the best motel we have stayed in. However the hosts were very friendly, and the weather was veyr cold.
wonderful friendly hostess, would definitely stay there again.
