Situated in a historical building dating back to the 16th century, the hotel offers an extremely quiet and serene environment. Initially a religious school for Jesuits, the Cloister saw its function changed over the centuries to a military hospital, and a home for the elderly. After a thorough renovation in 1990, the building is now a prominent cultural center and a 4-star hotel. It's a very convenient location in the heart of Avignon. Papal palace, bridge, and other museums are within walking distance. Private car park, and train station are at 200 meters. The spacious rooms, all furnished in a contemporary design, are located in the Cloister and in the extension completed in 1991. This modern wing is the work of the world-famous French architect Jean Nouvel. A majority of the rooms are overlooking the Cloister courtyard (superior rooms and suites) or the peaceful garden (rooms standard Jardin). All rooms have air-conditioning, bathroom with tub/shower, hair-dryer, cable TV international channels (English speaking BBC World), minibar, individual safe, direct dial telephone. There's a separate toilet in most of the rooms. Room service available. Non smoking rooms only. Roof-top open-air pool and sun deck (May-September). City Tax : 1.32 Euros per person/ per day.

Fabulous main part of the building with an open courtyard. Wonderful retaurant. New rooms are disappointing.
On Arrival we were met by a young man with the name of E.......over the next 24 hours he was so helpful in so many ways.....re the history of the hotel, the area, Restaurants.....making reservations for us.... and to top it off we got some shopping / markets ideas from him ...... a real good experience..... and we have already spoken of going there again for a couple of days this time...... a real gem for the hotel industry.........

The location is beautiful, the building is really nice but the rooms are not really so luxurious as you may expect. The bathrooms are old fashioned. The decoration of this beautiful building could have done with highest standards. If you pay the full price don't expect high standards in the room
