HOTEL COLUMBUS on Via Conciliazione in Rome is a perfect fit for anyone who wants to be in the heart of St.Peter's basilica. Only a few steps away! It's a palace of the Rovere family that was converted into a hotel!!! The Amenities are good; Rooms are adequate and quiet!!! Hotel Columbus has a great ambiance and Medieval environment . The Breakfast for 15euros in the hotel Columbus is a bargain compared other cafes in the area...which are all so pricey! Staff is helpful! Need a cab, limo or help to find a bus to the shopping district...they know it all. Also, Internet available and I-pad can be rented per day ... we will always stay at the Hotel Columbus when we come to Rome!
We truly enjoyed our 3 night/4 day stay. Room exceeded expectations. Fantastic location.
Written October 27, 2011. It was very pleasant. With a front-door view of and just two short blocks from St. Peter's Square. Several options for good meals, including at the hotel and nearby. Convenient shopping for souvenirs in many nearby shops. Rome tour buses stop right across the street. Knowledgeable English-speaking staff giving valuable information to inquiring tourists. Close enough to Rome for day-long tour hotel pick-up and return for outlying tours, such as to Florence and Assisi, and for airport shuttle drop off and pickup at hotel by independent shuttle operators. The above was written October 27, 2011.
Wonderful building with wide-open staircases. Three minute walk to St. Peter’s. Great nearby cafes. Beautiful courtyard for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Fantastic staff.
most helpful staff I've ever encountered. Good wifi, and sooo close to st. Peter's square. Even helped further book my stay!
A great hotel in a prime location. Hop on hop off buses stopped across the road there was a fantastic restaurant street was only one block away and The Vatican was just down the street. Staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were a perfect way to start the day, in a very relaxing courtyard setting. We would definitly stay at Columbus again.
Perfect location but slightly basic in terms of what the room and facilities of the hotel offer. But the location made up for it.
The room and bathroom were very basic. It's definitely a former nuns room. Staff were not too friendly. Breakfast was not bad but not memorable either. Location was amazing, which compensated for the hotel.
Location was EXCELLENT. Right in front of St Peter's Square. We booked a standard double but were given combined rooms 24/25 which provided plenty of space (thus very good value for money). Unfortunately due to a very busy day @ the hotel we had to wait 1 hour passed book-in time until we were allocated a room. Rooms were cleaned well each day but carpets could do with replacement or a good treatment.
My main complaint is the low performance of the air conditioning and the fact that it seemed impossible to close the outside door. The building itself is very nice and I loved all the public rooms that you could wander through.
200m frrom Church St.Pietro.Best Location.Very good restaurant.Very old (not antique) furniture.Very, very old mattress
Had I not read the reports of the hotel from the other people just before coming in there I would probably been rather shocked to see the room with its very dirty carpet. But luckily I knew what to expect. I rated the hotel "bad" for the cleanliness, but that is not due to the personnel cleaning the rooms (just fine) but the facilities. Breakfast is not very good. Adding some fresh fruits (in addition to apples), muesli, and change the bread to tastier type would make an improvement. The location is good. Also we had a large triple room which was convenient for a weeks stay for three. (Triple rooms with single beds would have been smaller and facing the busy street). The hotel personnel is friendly. After all our stay was just fine. No regrets regarding the hotel. (paid the discounted rate; would have felt bad had we paid more.) Next trip for Rome I would first look for other hotel options, but could also think of staying here again, given we get the same room.
Beautiful hotel with a fantastic location. Room was very large, but did not recieve enough natural light making it a little smelly and damp.
the carpet in the room i had, needs to be changed
Carpets in the rooms must be change, they are dirty and old.
Excellent location & free parking. had dinner in restaurant which was very good & staff very accomodating as we arrived in late. good breakfast but rooms are dated & basic but that would not put me off staying there again as the character & location of the hotel made up for this.
A beautiful, atmospheric and comfortable hotel, two steps from St Peter's. Helpful staff, quiet nights(apart from plumbing--always to be expected in europe!) and great breakfast. Thoroughly recommended.
Great place to stay with location in close proximity to Vatican.
A real historic Gem! Perfect breakfast. Perfect Bathroom. Perfect location (bus 40 stops around the corner. Wifi does not work well, that is actually not surprising as the atmosphere of the hotel is about 'ancient times revisited', don't spend too much time behind your laptop it tells you - smile!
The hotel is a former palace and retains much of its past grandeur. It is literally next door to St Peter's and so is as central as one can get to the Vatican. Excellent breakfast in glorious hall or outside if sunny. Helpful and friendly staff. For the price this was nothing short of EXCELLENT.
