Copthorne Hotel Newcastle Guest Reviews

3 out of 5

Tired looking rooms, uncomfortable bed, old tv with bad reception. Didnt eat at the hotel but bar service was good. Great location, right on the quayside so handy for Newcastle Arena as well as local bars and restaurants. I think this was quite a grand hotel but in need of refurb to bring it back up to a 4 star standard.

4.8 out of 5

We requested an early check in and when we arrived (at 12 noon) we were told by one receptionist our room wasn't ready and that we would have to wait. We were in a hurry as we were meeting people at 1.00 p.m and we needed to change our clothes. We only waited around a further 5 mins when another receptionist asked if she could help. We told her our story and she had us in a room immediately. It was a lovely spacious room with a fantastic view overlooking the river. Overall our experience at the Copthorne, Newcastle was a good one and we would definitely recommend 100%.

It would appear that this hotel is living off its reputation of situation. The room view is great across the river, and although compact are adequate. What was disappointing was, no free water or stocked minibar in room, (I don't normally use the minibar but it is always nice to know something is available). The room was hot, which is of course good in winter but, waking up thirsty and dry was not a comfortable experience - yes there is water in the tap. In addition, wifi was only available in the lobby and bar at a price! Which in todays era I found quite dated and strange for what is probably primarily a business hotel. If staying in Newcastle again. I will most likely change my venue. A Premier Inn is only a few hundred metres away and probably half the price with equal facilities.

as other reviews have said the hotel is seriously dated but for location and the price I paid I can't complain. 3* at best

Inexperienced staff in the dining room let the hotel down. Ido not recall receiving a "Thank you" card

Superb location on the Quayside with all rooms having a river view. Very nice room, but noise from Metro crossing bridge, but that did not bother us. Most enjoyable breakfast from a very friendly staff. Short walk (uphill) to Metro and City Centre. Easy access to Hotel from North and South. Car Park extra but only cost £2 for the 20 hours we left it. Will definitely stay here again.

haven't paid over £100 a night i could not believe breakfast was not included. it was a nice bedroom & the hotel in a prime location. didn't use pool but jacuzzi & steam room good but gym equipment poor though staff helpful. compared to the carlton it was not goood value for money ( the room service for food was excellent & staff pleasant & helpful )

Very conveniently situated for the Quayside and for access from the South, but perhaps a little expensive when it came to meals.

Stayed here for 4 nights in July. Excellent location with good views of the Tyne River. Rooms are comfortable and cozy, but do need refurbishing. Enjoyed our stay here.

Bed a little small-room slightly stuffy with the air co-you cant open any windows for fresh air. But we enjoyed our stay-great location and the Orchid chinese restaurant opposite the hotel is out of this world-we will be back.

Location is graded "Average" simply because it is not easy to find even with the directions from the web site. A simple map or including distances between the points mentioned in the directions would have been helpful. Also so many of the near-by roads are either "bus only" or closed for road works or partially closed for major building works that one is liable to have to make a second circuit to get on the right road. Cleanliness is not graded "Very Good" simply because of a very large and obtrusive stain on the corridor carpet on Floor 4 which is rather unpleasant.

Fantastic location. Very close to all bars and clubs. Nice walk along the Quayside. Room clean and tidy. Chef not keen to make our breakfast even though we arrived just before ten. After speaking to the manager, this was sorted out and we were given our full breakfast. (thank you!) Health suite was okay but a little disappointed that the jacuzzi was empty and we were not notified of this. On the whole a very pleasant stay and we would definately go back.

The rooms were very spacious and had a great view..however considering the price both bedside lampshades were broken and the grouting in the bathroom was going rather grey...needed some mould killer on it. The breakfast was very good. The receptionist called Emma needed some training in smiling and customer care...she really wasn't interested in her job...and that was our first impression when we walked in. She looked as though she had swallowed a frog. We would come again for the location and the spacious room but more attenrion to detail is need to charge your rates.

Very good hotel in fine setting : access is a problem for those who do not know Newcastle well and perhaps the website could include directions from the Airport since they seemed to apply only to those approaching from the A1 north/south corridor. But once there the service was impeccable (particularly friendly and helpful at reception) and the room was excellent.
