Cradle Mountain Road, Cradle Mountain 7310
Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village is in a secluded bush setting in Cradle Valley on the edge of the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain/Lake St Clair National Park. Opened in 2000, we strive to provide our guests a natural wilderness experience without compromising comfort. Our private, self-contained cottages have been carefully sited in the natural bushland so you are surrounded by native plants and wildlife. We offer a variety of cottages catering for the travelling couple up to larger family groups. When you walk outside onto your balcony you may well come face to face with a wallaby, wombat, pademelon, possum or currawong - it's all part of the 'wilderness' experience.

The studio cabin that we stayed in was lovely, with the rusty exterior hiding a very cosy, nice & an extremely clean interior. It contains most of the cooking facilities that we required for a 2 night stay with home-cooked meals (microwave, halogen cooktop, fridge etc). The 24/7 movie channels are also an added bonus. There is also a courtesy bar (24/7 access via room key and payment via honour system) in the guest lounge, complete with CD & boardgames for free loan during our stay. Guest laundry is also available $4 (4 x $1 coins) right next to the reception. The water is tainted yellow, probably a natural phenomenon of the Cradle mountain, however the bathroom still sparkles as fresh as it looks new. Reception opens till 6pm, and all late arrivals after would have their room keys left in the after hour box so it's well-catered for late arrival. The only constructive comment to the staff is to show more flexibility with the request for late check out. 10am is normal, and it would be reasonable to allow for a slightly later checkout time, when the village is not busy of course. Also a slight warning that all units are quite closeby to each other. Overall a very pleasant stay!
Excellent location - only short walk (500m) to the Transit Terminal for shuttle bus service and all info on Cradel Mt. Very helpful, but not intrusive, staff. Accommodation extremely comfortable and well equipped. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it. NB. We stayed in the Premium Chalet.

A very well presented unit, would recommend it if you are staying in Cradel Mountain.
Very nice clean cabin, great heating, friendly wildlife and spectacular scenery.
Not many good value choices at Cradle Mountain but this is OK. Cabins are a bit dated but functional and spacious (maybe we are just city slickers!) Cradle Mountain Chateau has all the restaurants and good gift shop so consider staying there if price is comparable.
The Lodge is located at the entrance to the national park and a 5 minute walk to the transfer center (shuttle bus terminal). The very comfortable self contained cottages are 2 bedroom and scattered throughout the property, 2 restaurants are nearby. Wild life is abundant in the area. A recommended property.
A very comfortable self-contained cabin with all "mod cons", we enjoyed our one night stay very much. Located just up the road from the shuttle bus which takes you to the National Park (Dove Lake is magnificent!), you can base yourself here and either enjoy a meal at the restaurant/bistro (at The Lodge) or bring your own supplies and cook a meal in your cabin. Although there were just the two of us, a family of four would've been very comfortable in this cabin as there was a second bedroom with bunk beds. If you tire of being cooped up in one room hotels, this provides a nice change, giving you a sense of space and privacy. If you're lucky, a wallaby or two might just visit you while you're sitting on your private deck.
Very clean and well equipped and the communal and bar area were very nice.
Perfect for a stay at Cradle Mountain, clean, convenient and delightful to see wallabies and wombats right at the door.
Very nice. Had an upgraded unit. Staff was helpful. Very close to Cradle Mountain entrance.
It was absolutely wonderful to go to the main lounge with the fire lit and raging, coffee facilities at your fingertips and the people that were there on duty were very friendly and made you feel at home. One of the best places that we stayed at and would recommend it to anyone who asked us. Thank you for making our last couple of days in Tasmania really special.
look outside your door for local wildlife
The cottage was warm enough with the heater, but we were glad it was summer (very cold nights and mornings).
Delightful place to stay. Hosts were very friendly and helpful for the duration of our stay. There was no coffee table in the unit and they have promised to place one in the unit. We would recommend this place to others and would stay here again. It was lovely to be able to self cater after a day spent walking around Cradle Mountain, as the last thing we would want to do is dress to go out for dinner. We loved having a balcony, as it gave us more space to see the wildlife and watch the snow fall around us.
Well-equipped and cosy cabins. Could use a better heater in the bathroom, but otherwise very comfortable and well-fitted-out. We will stay there again!
Very natural setting, quiet and relaxing. Accomodation very modern, clean and ample size. Would recommend for family or couple wanting mid price accomodation at Cradle Mt.
We loved our stay at Wilderness. The setting was perfect. Surrounded by dense bushland. Thanks Jennifer and Bernard.
This is an ideal place for groups or families to stay. The bedrooms are spaced well apart, separated by a living area. The kitchen is reasonably well equiped but be sure to take plenty of food supplies with you as there is very little available for sale at Cradle Mountain. The Village is well located and there is a roomy and pleasant communal living area with internet, refreshment and snack facilities (not free). There is a good laundry if your clothes get a bit grubby from bushwalking and the staff are friendly and helpful. Toiletries are not provided, not even soap so be sure to have your own. Overall we thought it was one of the best places we stayed on our holiday in Tasmania and value for money.
Neat and very functional cottage, if a little pricey. Kitchen well appointed but simple instructions on how to operate some appliances would have been good. A couple of inexpensive little extras like cooking oil, vinegar, salt and pepper grinders and aluminium foil and cling wrap would have been appreciated. Kitchens in most of the other self-contained accomodation we stayed at throughout the rest of our trip in Tassie were equipped with these.
Very natural, eco-friendly accommodation in a beautiful location.
