Danubius Hotel Gellert Budapest Guest Reviews

4 out of 5

We loved staying at the Gellert Hotel. It is a famous Hungarian hotel. Close to shopping and places to eat. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed the spa which is located in the hotel. I would recommend this hotel.

Good.Breakfast a bit chaotic as some tables not cleared and others cleared as soon as one goes up for more.A puzzle to locate cutlery cups and water for tea tepid. Bar small. Tipping expectation everywhere possibly as a result of many US visitors. Old world decency but rooms a bit worn. Would use again but not with wives as they would want higher standards

Excellant if dated hotel, but this adds to the ambience. Hotel reception were very professional and helpful and access to the spa a welcome bonus. Hotel is central to everything in Budapest. Would have no problem recommending this hotel to anyone visiting Budapest.

the hotelaccomodation is outdated and should be modernised, but the breakfast, the service and loaction are perfect.

You can see the past glory but the place is dismal and somewhat depressing. In desperate need of modernisation. My room was tiny, and very unwelcoming. The conected baths (not operated by the hotel), my main reason for going to the hotel, are of similar standard. Even more dismal at night, with dim lights with a range of yellowing to dead bulbs, and dirt accumulated in the light shades. Showers and changing cabins are the standard of a very cheap campsite - rusty plumbing, dillapidated. I would not go back even if it were for free. Staff at reception very helpful, but breakfast staff youngsters walk around in a trance - no see and no hear...

A wonderful hotel, full of character. Especially appealing with the added bonus of the Health Spa and Wellness Centre at Gellet Bath attached.

We loved this hotel - a gem from a bygone era, with service to match. This remnant of elegant Art Nouveau life is poles apart from the dull same-iness of the "Intercontinental" type hotel. (But if you are the sort of person bothered by faded furnishings & sticking plugholes, don't go!) Having said that, there are major renovation works in progress, so doubtless we will be unable to afford it once completed. The pool is a must - free to hotel guests it is like swimming in the Roman Baths. Only downside - the noisy roundabout outside which forced us to close our window at night.

Classy hotel, but the discounted rooms are more like 1-2 star hotel rooms (I have stayed twice in the hotel)

a little dated, one of our rooms was renovated, the other not. All the staff were lovely, and we especially enjoyed the spas and outside pools during the warm weather. Construction at the bridge kept us awake as we needed to keep the windows open at night due to the warmth. All in all a good experience

An Excellent Art Nouvau styled hotel. The service, staff and all facilities are the best I have seen in a very long time. Situated on the banks of the Danube the scenery was stunning and I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Budapest. A very enjoyable stay.

Great hotel: a reminiscence of the old Austro-Hungarian empire. Despite a slightly worn out bits and pieces especially in the rooms the atmosphere is great. Hotel Brasserie is certainly higly recommendable over the Panorama Restaurant (unprofessional service not matching the prices). The hotel's greatest asset is definitely the thermal spa (internal/external) where you can go almost directly from your room (included in price). At the moment, however, women spa is under reconstruction similarly to the bridge just in front of the hotel so be ready for some noise and possible inconvenience.

Old world charm - a bit faded, but excellent location, faboulous breakfast, direct acccess to the famous Gellert Spa adjacent to the Hotel included in the room. Some might not like the furnishings - I just loved the atmosphere and location.

party of three stayed in single rooms,€115 per night each. Rooms badly need modernisation. No airconditioning a big letdown.

If you are looking for a charming old Palace, with rememberance of early century's novels or Orient Express atmosphere, you will find it in the Gellert Hotel . The Spa are magnificent and looks like Ingres orientalists pictures. It's the best place for imaginative people . Just a dream of luxury , quietness and beauty . Irene

Beautiful old charm hotel, furnishings a little old, but the baths made up for it, upgraded to a room with a view without asking. People at reception desk very helpful, walking distance to the city.

There is no denying that the Gellert offers the utmost in elegance and sophistication. You are greeted at the door, welcomed at the reception and waiting is kept to a minimum. The halls, corridor and stain glass windows are beautifully decorated, however the rooms are not. We were given a cold, plain and old fashioned room with twin beds (we booked a double) and when we asked to be changed for that reason we were given a room half the size and no balcony. It just goes to show you can't have it all! The breakfast buffet was one of the best I have seen and room service was also possible with no extra charge.

The hotel was well run and friendly. The breakfast was excellent. The adjoining thermal baths were very pleasant and very convenient as the hotel has its own entrance. The hotel is well placed in regard to the 'sights'. Yes if we return to Budapest we will stay at this hotel.
