First off I would like to say how great the staff was at this hotel. The employees work hard to make sure everyone is happy at all times. I was very happy with each staff member I came in contact with. The hotel is very clean and the amenities are plentiful. The beds are not the best (I haven't found one in Mexico that is good yet)! The hotel gets a little loud in the evening, but that is pretty standard for the Ixtapa area. We really enjoyed the swim up bar, and the pool area in general. My only complaint about the area, is that it would be nice if they would keep children out of the swim up bar area. The food is O.K., but nothing extraordinary. Blue water grill was our favorite restaurant in the hotel. Good steaks and veggies. All in all it was a great stay and we would consider going back if we were looking for an all inclusive hotel.
The hotel is under rennovation which meant the days were very noisy. They also changed management on Nov 1 so employees were learning new processes when we arrived on Nov 11. Very noisy at night - parties went on until 3-4 in the morning. They are changing to all inclusive which I do not care for as I'd rather meet and eat at the local establishments. The staff is wonderful - especially the activity directors Salvador and Alberto - played lots of pool vollyball. Tequilla tasting was great too with Carlos. Once the reno's are done this will be a great place to stay. Except for the all inclusive which is a deal breaker for me.
All rooms have ocean view with 2 double beds or a king bed, private balcony with chairs and table, air conditioning, mini bar, telephone with voice mail, cable TV and amenities of a 5-star hotel.
All Junior Suites are ocean front with a king bed, 2 balconies with chairs and a table, small living room, air conditioning, safety deposit box in the closet, hairdryer, bathrobes, mini bar, telephone with voice mail, telephone in the bathroom, cable TV and amenities of a 5-star hotel.
Not too fond of the lunch menu at the pool. Hot dogs, hamburgers, nacho's & french fries....that's it! Our room air conditioner was not working very properly, never got cool. Hotel was under construction, noisy from early am till late in the evening. Explorer for the kids was only partial operational.
The hotel is being updated and is in the process of going all inclusive. The remodeling is a big upgrade to the hotel. The staff is as good as it gets anywhere. They are cordial, polite, helpful and courteous. We stayed before the remodeling was done but looks very interesting. New spa, restaurants, and many more amenities.
This is a fine hotel. The service is excellent. The only drawback is the beds are very hard. They are a mattress on a concrete slab. But after a few days I got use to it and my back quit hurting.
To our surprise, while checking in, they offered us a $15.00 credit per day available at the restraurants or bar. This made our stay even more affordable and enjoyable. Also,in front of the hotel there were some exciting beach volleyball games in the early morning, I'm not talking jungleball. I would recommend this hotel above all the others on Ixtapa Beach.
Upon check in we were handed a $15 off voucher but on check out we did not get the $15 credit on the restaurant bill. I asked Brito to change it, but his response was, “you don’t get that credit on the package deal you came on…” to tell us at check-out, that our voucher for $15 discount on food was not valid, seemed dishonest. There were other similar rip-offs at this hotel but am not allowed the space to describe them all.. we were getting nickeled and dimed by a manager very good at annoying customers. We will never go back to the Dorado.
The hotel is fine and its services are very good. The only thing I would suggest is a major refurbishment to the building. The finishes look old and for the type of hotel that it is, it should offer state of the art facilities that can compete with other 5 stars hotels in the area.
