The "Hotel du Simplon" ** with character and charm is situated in the "presqu'île", the "peninsula" between the rivers Rhone and Soane. It is located near the main train station of Perrache and the greenery of the place Carnot. Although this part of the city is primarily residential, three commercial streets run through it, leading to the place Bellecour, the largest square in the city : rue Victor Hugo, rue Auguste Comte and rue de la Charite whose galleries and shops are heaven for antiques and art lovers. Pets are allowed on request and at extra cost 7euros/day

This hotel was basic but functional. The room was small, but as it was for only 1 night it didn't matter. The location was nice and near the river, but not near the livelier end of town. The only real problem that we had was that the shower didn't have a curtain, so of course the bathroom was soaked after we'd showered.

Very convenient to tourist points of interest and local transport. Very helpful staff, good lift, parking conveniently nearby - accessible 24/7.

The Staff were frindly and helpful. Limited English speaking but endeavoured to assist wherever possible. Right across the road from the Laundromat and a nice inexpensive kebab shop. Two easy blocks walk from excellent shopping. £E10 taxi ride from main train station but adjacent to the metro.
