"This hotel was basic but functional. The room was small, but as it was for only 1 night it didn't matter. The location was nice and near the river, but not near the livelier end of town. The "Hotel du Simplon" ** with character and charm is situated in the "presqu'île", the "peninsula" between the rivers Rhone and Soane. It is located near the main train station of Perrache and the greenery of the place Carnot. Although this part of the city is primarily residential, three commercial streets run through it, leading to the place Bellecour, the largest square in the city : rue Victor Hugo, rue Auguste Comte and rue de la Charite whose galleries and shops are heaven for antiques and art lovers.
