Eastern & Oriental Hotel Penang

Right in the hub of Georgetown, yet you wouldn't believe it when you are in your luxurious suite or around the beautiful pool that is right on the waterfront,where it is peaceful and luxurious. Staff all very attentive and friendly. Would definitely go back. The location enables you to join the wonderful buzz of Georgetown where the food is delicious and the heritage is fascinating.

Excellent room, ground floor near pool and with water view. Very friendly and helpful staff from pool attendant, through to wait staff in restaurant. Excellent breakfast and dinner buffets. All in all a very pleasant stay, will definitely be back.

Great old world hotel with matching staff

The only critisism of this hotel is the strange odours in the lobby of the hotel, which originate from Sarkie's Corner, which is the hotel's buffet restaurant. They serve mainly local foods (which are spicy and often not to the taste of Westerners). Otherwise, the service at this hotel is excellent and the rooms are huge by any standard.

This is an absolutely fantastic hotel. Location is excellent (middle of town, right on the sea), rooms are luxurious - beautiful antique furniture throughout, comfy bed, and large bathroom, and the swimming pool and excercise facilities are good. We were upgraded to suite because they had just started a minor renovation and thought that the noise might b e a problem - we didn't hear a thing and we enjoyed the luxury of 2 rooms and a butler! We definitely felt it was worth the splurge to stay in this historic place.

If you would like to have a 'Raffles' experience at half the price this is the place to go. For two well travelled Scots this was a wonderful few days.

Beautiful 'old world charm'. I was so caught up in the atmoshpere I proposed to my now fiance. Staff were exceptionally helpful.

This hotel has been completely refurbished in it's original style. It is an excellent location for George town and is a very pleasant place to stay. The staff are very good, friendly, helpful and most obliging. I can unequivocaly recommend the E&O to the most discerning traveler

The E&O was more expensive than most other hotels on the island, but as one cab driver said: 'it's the number one hotel in Penang'. The hotel itself was well maintained and had an old-world grandeur befitting its history. The pool was nice, there was in-room internet (50MYR a day) and the staff were exponentially helpful. Facilities were as could be expected (gym/pool/restaurants/bar) and the only criticisms I have are 1) the expense of borrowing a DVD player - 150 MYR! (it rained for two days, and the storms knocked out the satellite TV), and 2) the main dining and bar areas were far too cold. Everything else was excellent, as you would expect given the relative expense of staying there.

The staff was most helpful. Breakfast was delicious.Would stay there again. A beautiful environment.

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Old world character with the best facilities and service. Similar to Raffles in Singapore.

This is the second time we have stayed at the E & O. It is a beautiful hotel in the heart of Georgetown. The rooms are extremely spacious and comfortable whilst the remainder of the hotel has a wonderful atmosphere.

Great service, would highly recommend this hotel. Great to find a hotel that takes a pride in looking after its guests. Having stayed at the majority of the best hotels in Penang this is by far the best.

Friendly and courteous staff. A different experience from the normal tourist or business hotel. We enjoyed our stay. Some way from all the other holiday hotels in Penang.

This was a return visit after 48 years and pleasant memories were amply repaid. E&O has modernised but kept its charm and tradition. Well worth a stay. The dinner dance on Thursday evenings is fun and took us back in time. The staff members were very efficient and pleasantly helpful. I cannot speak highly enough of this hotel.

Best hotel in Penang - very luxurious

This hotel is an upmarket hotel based on old world charm. For this type of hotel it could not be faulted. The price is exceptionally good compared with like hotels in other parts of the world. To stay is an excellent experience at a very affordable price.

Perfect for travellers nostalgic for the sort of hotel that was famous throughout the East in the early twentieth century. Like stepping back in time, but with all modern conveniences.
