The Empire Hotel has historic associations with Palmerston North - it was the city's first school. In 1890 the school was relocated and the building was converted into a hotel and has been a popular hotel both for local residents and visitors to the city.
Our 14 rooms are comfortable and tidy. They have ensuite bathrooms, tea/coffee making facilities and SKY TV. Located in the city centre makes for an easy stroll to shopping and inner city attractions. The bar downstairs is one of the most popular bars in town and we also boast having Palmerston Norths only Mexican Restaurant. Getting there:
Taxi from Airport or train station takes approx. 5 mins & costs $10-$15.
Travelling via car from North:Travel down Rangitikei St into The Square, turn left, follow the Square & turn left into Main St, 200m & you will see The Empire on your right on the Cnr of Main & Princess St. Coming from East: follow the main highway in, it changes name into main st on the city boundary. Keep travelling along until you reach intersection of Princess & main st, where you will see us straight ahead of you.
Coming from Wellington on SH 57: You will travel pass Massey University, continue on the same highway which will change name to Fitzherbert Ave. Travel down Fitzherbert Ave until you get to the intersection of Ferguson & Fitzherbert (you will see burger king on your left).Turn right into Ferguson, travel along 400m until you get to the lights on Ferguson & Princess St where you turn left. Travel up Princess St through one set of lights and you will see us on cnr of Princess & Main st
Check-in Procedure:
Check in is at 2pm. Reception is open 7am to 7pm Monday to Sunday. Check after hours in is available at the restaurant or the bar which are both open late.
