"Newly refurbished. Staff were always polite, friendly and very helpful. Location of hotel means a hire car is essential because it is situated out of nearest village and roads are very steep. Ideally situated in one of the most beautiful valleys of Madeira, Estalagem do Vale consists of an XVIII century manor house, with great historical value, which has been restored and enlarged to become a modern and luxurious four star hotel-inn.
The hotel has 41 rooms (one of which has been specially adapted for the disabled), restaurant, bar, wine-cellar, games room, library, internet zone, children’s playground, heated indoor & outdoor swimming pool, mini-golf course, croquet field, bowling green, sauna, Turkish bath, gymnasium & jacuzzi. We also have a 24 hr reception service & free car park.
In addition to its own gardens, the property is set in rural surroundings, in the valley of São Vicente, which is part of the "Laurissilva" or forest of lauraceas madeirense, today a UNESCO World Heritage Nature Site, because of the rare and the richness of its flora of the Tertiary Period. From the Estalagem you are able to appreciate the magnificent views of the valley, which is set against a contrasting backdrop of huge mountains that end, as if by magic, as they descend towards the deep blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean to the north. The wide horizons, sun-drenched location and surrounding nature create a peerless setting of uncommon beauty.
Due to the new motorways and express routes, the Capital Funchal is now only 30 minutes drive away and the Airport 40 minutes.

| Getting there: |
Take the Motorway from the airport in the direction of Funchal. From Funchal, you join the Cota 200 (Expressway) in the direction of Funchal- Ribeira Brava. On arriving in Ribeira Brava, take the road which leads you to Serra d'Água. From here you take the North Tunnel, which links Serra d’Água to São Vicente. Once you exit the tunnel, drive straight ahead for about 2 km (1.3miles) until you come to a roundabout. Here you take the road ER104 (Estrada Regional 104) until you come to a sign with Ginjas written on it. Turn left here and then right. Follow this narrow road until you come to the Estalagem do Vale, which you will find on your right hand side. |
