A renowned 5-star hotel on the beautiful Bund, the Peace Hotel is located right in the heart of commerce, finance and culture of Shanghai , facing with the developing Pudong New Area and soaring Orient Pearl TV Tower over the Huangpu River. In 1992, the Peace Hotel was listed as one of the famous hotels of the world by the World Hotel Association, the only Chinese hotel to receive this listing. 12-storey Peace was once the highest building in Shanghai after it was constructed in 1926 and inaugurated in 1929. Originally it was known as the Cathay Hotel. Inevitably, its old-fashioned scale has rendered it increasingly anachronistic in the modern city Shanghai. The Peace Hotel, announced to close this year for major renovations. The Peace hotel invites both long standing and new guests to visit for a last opportunity to enjoy the classical and historic hotel. Welcome you always to stay us at “The Centenary Peace Hotel”.

the hotel is superb, but once you get in your room it's fairly simple to see the decay of this formerly world's best hotel. all resembles to be stuck in the eighties, but still it's an amazing place to understand the history of shanghai and it's definely well located near all the major highlights.
This is an old hotel, and while the bedroom was charming, comfortable and spacious, some things need to be updated - e.g unfortunately the bathroom was very smelly because of the drains. Also the toilet took forever (at least half an hour) to fill up after flushing. I also complained about a light in the bathroom which needed fixing - it kept flashing on and off - but this was not repaired.
will return in the spring
This hotel is in top location in Shanghai. It is right opposite the "Bund" or river front and on the corner of the main road. It is in two sections opposite one another. The oldest, The Peace South built in 1906, and the other built in 1926. They have old world charm with modern facilities.
south wing a little dodgy, good rates though.
I was only there for 2 nights and it was the first time I had visited China. I was disappointed with the food at dinner/lunch My bedroom was rather gloomy and looked inwards onto a services area
location location location charming, not fancy, not modern, just old world.
Old world charm (1926), loads of character and very comfortable. Staff excellent and concierge has good knowledge of things to do in Shanghai. Great location on the Bund. Restaurants very good but breakfast buffet very average for westerners. Do need to request a queen or king size bed if required as a double room generally means twin singles. Executive floor rooms excellent and complimentary broadband a bonus. North Tower rooms and facilities far superior to South Tower (annexe across the road).
Nice place with a lot of character. Spacious rooms. Step out the door into prime tourist area, with many interesting things within easy walking distance.
The holiday traveller is made very welcome in a superb Bund , waterfront location where the staff enjoy their work, and are proud of their historic property and their energetic city. The older world style, location and high service standards would be hard to match elsewhere. There's a substantial feel of European old hotel style and grace mixed with China charm, without all the lavish frills.
A very nice hotel when you love to live in art deco style. I will book again.
One has to appreciate that this is an historic hotel and as such has its limitations on modern facilities. The granduer of the old world gets me in all the time.
Staff were very pleasant and helpful and room was great value. Would stay here again without any hesitation.
A grand entrance, full of old world charm. Location ideal for shopping and walking by the river. Rooms large but need some TLC, I would still use it again.
