A little bit too far out of town, but very peacefull location.
spectacular location
The So Called "Hotel" is more of a remodelled Outhouse of a family that lives there. It gets really Spooky after evenings and not many guests reside at any point of time. Good for those looking for reclusion at extremely remote locations and Not for those expecting amenities or restaurants or any City Hustle Bustle.
Very cordial and obliging staff.Lovely building.Meals could be better.
Delightful stay. A hgihlight of our trip in the Sputh island. Very welcoming.
Could be a first class hotel but lacking some basic facilities........no wardrobes to hang clothes or drawers - you live out of your suitcase. Rooms can become hot and are quite small with no air conditioning. Hotel is in a very picturesque, remote setting well back from the road with wonderful views (mist permitting). Excellent breakfast, but don't make a noise with your knife and fork on the plate - it's that sort of dining room!! Overpriced for what you get.
A little out of the way. Service at breakfast was a little slow - had to wait some time to be served. Room comfortable, but simple with no hanging space other than a hook behind the door (no hangers).
What a beautiful place.. would recommend this place to anyone. The rooms and particularly the beds are a dream to sleep on.
Friendly, welcoming family environment. Great location
This is an outstanding retreat. It is alittle out of town but worth the extra ten minutes drive. The hosts were very accomodating and helpful. A scrumptious breakfast was served the next day. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed. A new establishment with hosts trying hard to make your stay pleasant.
If you're considering a quasi-farm stay, this place is ideal. Close enough to the township, and cheap. Clean, new and comfortable. If you're travelling to it for the first time at night, there might be some problems as the signage on the main road is not adequately illuminated. We were intending to arrive, spend the night, climb the glacier the next day and leave for the next town - and it suited our requirements perfectly. Highly recommended.
Brilliant place to stay, excellent hospitality, breakfast, location and quality of rooms. Highly recommended
This is our second stay - this says it all.
Beautiful Hotel, just out of Town, extremely quite, real country feel, wonderful breakfast, highly reccommended.
Found the Retreat exactly as it sounds - a retreat! What a wonderful place to relax and unwind rather than staying at the local hotels where noise and people are abundant. Our stay was most enjoyable - the views from the balcony calming. Our host was most pleasant and informative regarding early history of the area. Would definitely recommend to travellers who are wanting great price, great venue and the comforts of home.
Very pleasant, quiet place.
Highly recommended.
A beautiful property in a quiet rural setting. We could not ask for a more pleasant staff. Priced a bit high in-season for no included continental breakfast.
It was a wonderful experience staying at the beautiful the Retreat. We would have extended our stay if it was at all possible, make sure you stay for the breakfast.
Very very new and very well appointed. Newly planted gardens just starting to grow. Superb outlook onto misty mountains and cows grazing along with lake views from other areas and rooms- all within a short driving distance to Franz Josef township. Large cosy warm and welcoming room. Comfortable lounge areas. Staff very helpful. Deliciuos country breakfast. Enjoyed our short stay immensely. Would highly recommend
