Friendship Palace Hotel Harbin I found the hotel very good. It was well kept and the staff was very helpful. The charm of the hotel was in the western part of the hotel where a lovely covered space was both charming and different. The stores in the hotel are good, though kept a bit cold. The hotel breakfast is excellent. The closeness to the river is good and the short walk to the pedestrian shoping street is ok. There are not many good restaurants around the hotel but 10 minute's walk away are several good places to eat.

Good location and it is about 5 minutes walk to the hub of the Harbin City.
Good hotel for a short stay. 5 mins walk from pedestrian shopping area (Zhongyang Dajie). Taxi to Ice Festival across river about 15/20 RMB, airport about 100RMB +20RMB tolls. (Watch out for the rip off unlicenced old taxis at hotel - no photo ID). Good for price. Rooms clean, warm, comfortable, en suite. Minibar was empty & smelled of fish! TV only Chinese and Russian. No English spoken, but check-in/out no probs. Deposit slightly more than whole 2 nights room charge. Intl credit cards OK. English maps for 10RMB. Hotel spa - menu in room of massage services, but they don't actually do any of these, it's just a hooker (didn't check her menu). Breakfasts mainly chinese but cereal, bread, fruit, coffee if prefer. Overall short Harbin trip worthwhile. Very little English spoken anywhere so a smattering of Chinese helps. Could see all the sights in 1 busy day. Wrap up well!
Some of the hotel receptionists can speak English ( just only one can speak fluently), so it is a big problem of this hotel.
They really tried their best to give me help to get on for my trip outside Harbin. More then could be expected.
