Gear Hotel Kaohsiung

New , clean and comfy. Good services- free bicycle and wifi. Reception extremely helpful. 40' LCD TV. Definitely recommended. Value for money!

very helpful staff with good service

The Gear Hotel is a good tourist-class hotel. Service is excellent. Reception staff are very friendly. Breakfast has totally Chinese fare so westerners may not like everything. Coffee and toast are available and good. Breakfast dining room is spacious which is good. Location is so-so because the train station which is the center of everything is far and bus service to the train station from the hotel is poor. It is a 1 or 2 km walk to the train station if you are energetic and not old.

Simple, well maintained place, with all regular amenities. Good location, about 1.5km from main railway and subway station. Accessible on foot and by MTR feeder bus. Very friendly attendance, particularly, it seemed, towards non-Chinese guests who form the main clientele. Asian breakfast buffet of acceptable quality

Everything is great. For the amount paid for, it is really a good bargain. Just that it is slightly too far from the train and bus terminal, at least about 20min walk away. Can take bus 88 and 93 to the train and bus terminal, but the timing and frequency of the bus cannot be guaranteed. Breakfast is same everyday, but their food is not bad, their "Dong Gua Cha" is nice.

Friendly receptionists but location may not be that accessible. But overall value for $$ and recommended for budget travellers

Nice and clean hotel but price a little high.

Excellent value for money, nice large room and comfortable bed. 100+ tv channels, coffee and tea making facilities and lots of little extras (e.g. slippers, combs, toothbrushes etc...) The staff speak English and were happy to help us order taxis etc... Good location, 10-15 minutes walk (or 80NT in a taxi) from the main station. Close to night markets and restaurants too. We'd definately stay here again.
