116 High Street Colchester Essex CO1 1TD
This 500 year old coaching inn sits in the oldest town in England, Colchester. The extensive medieval cellars, preserved behind glass, detail soil from old Roman roads and even the ashes left by the fires of Queen Boudicca’s rampage in AD60. Such history resonates throughout this delightful property, offering you the ideal place to relax with warming hospitality and delectable cuisine. We have 47 beautiful, individually decorated, spacious bedrooms equipped to a high standard and while The George is ideal for seeing the sights of Colchester, the hotel is also suitable for all your business needs. The George is home to a distinctive, lively Brasserie Restaurant boasting good quality English and European dishes. Choose from the fine a la Carte menu or the daily specials. The George also hosts a popular Lounge serving food and beverages throughout the day in spacious, comfortable surroundings making it the ideal place to relax and take a break from the bustling town centre. Bubbles Wine Bar positioned within The George hotel is a wonderful place to meet friends and enjoy lunch or an early evening aperitif. The modern ambience of Bubbles contrasts with the more traditional style of The George Hotel lounge, the latter featuring real ales and a great lounge food menu, whichever bar you choose, you can be sure of a warm welcome and great hospitality.

the single room i was given was a bit small but had a nice view overlooking a local pub. The wooden floors were a bit noisy. Overall it was a very good experience and i'm definatelly going back some time soon
It's very noisy outside at night, as it is on High Street.
Re-furbished in 1984, so rather shabby now, but good food and service and very conveniently situated in the centre of Colchester. Getting a place in the hotel car park can be difficult, but I would certainly stay there again.
An excellent stay in a hotel full of character and centrally located. Would strongly recommend to anyone.
