Ghent River Hotel is situated on the right shore of the “Leie”, who formed the border of Ghent from 11th to 15th century. Thanks to the old wharf is “Ghent River Hotel” the only hotel attainable by boat. The hotel consists of 2 buildings: A Renaissance-house dated 1518 and an old ricepeelfactory built on the foundations of a burnt down sugar refinery. After that the building was used as a steam-cotton-mill (1873), as a storehouse (1879) and as a steamed-up bread bakery (1892). The bakery had several enlargements until 1909. Opposite the hotel there is a little square where there was a yarn market during the Middle Ages until end 19th century. A few footsteps away from the Kouter, the Veldstraat (shopping street), musea, the opera, the Palace of Justice and the historical city (with the Sint- Baafs Cathedral, the Sint- Pieters Cathedral and the Belfort. Ghent is the ideal starting point for organising your city tours, because of her central situation between Brussels, Antwerp and Bruges. Getting there:In Ghent itself you follow the yellow “P-route” .Afterwards you keep on following the boulevard until the end and turn right (Zuidstationstraat) You reach the St-Annaplein.Take the 4th street to your right (Keizer Karelstraat) and go straight on (via St-Jacobs-nieuwstraat and the Vlasmarkt) until you reach a roundabout (at St-Jacobs-Beverhoutplein) Then take the 4th street on your right (Ottogracht) At the end of the street, before the bridge, you turn left and a few meters further you see the “Ghent River Hotel” in the Waaistraat 5+

Our room overlooked the canal, very pleasant. Just 20 metres from the Vrijdagmarkt square, so the location is excellent.
Perfect position in Ghent - easy walking to Bars and Restaurants. Breakfast room a joy.
A highly recommended hotel. The location was very good, near to the Vrijdagsmarkt and on walkingdistance from St Baafs, Gravensteen, Sint Niklaaskerk etc etc. A very nice and big room, friendly staff. We did not have the breakfast because of it's ridiculous price (20 euro each) and had a very nice breakfast (5 euro each) in a tearoom at the Vrijdagsmarkt, 150 meters from the hotel.
We found the hotel to be in an ideal position,shops and restaurants on the doorstep and tramline, which takes you direct to the train station 10mins away.We booked a luxury room, which i would call an 'average room' no extras or anything like that.I booked the hotel as under 'facilities'on the booking site it had 'tea & coffee making facilities' well we had none in our room at all.However it only took a visit to reception for them to give me a kettle and cups for my use, which was ideal.It also said 'bath robes' and a few other things which i took to mean this was included as i had booked a luxury room, but there was none in our room.Yes i would go back for the simple fact that it was an ideal location, the staff were very kind and always helpful, and the breakfast was included in our room rate which was unexpected and it was a lovely 'buffet' breakfast, fruits, meats, pastries, pancakes, cereals, eggs, bacon, juices, etc, etc.On the whole 7/10
Hotel is located centrally in a quiet street. The rooms are not sound proofed so you can easily hear people in the room next door talking. Volume control on the TV's has thankfully been capped. Recommended for those who are not light sleepers.

Our room was located in the old part of the hotel. The view out of the room was verry nice.
It was just a short break so the location of this hotel is ideal, walking distance of shopping centers, ect. Rooms were nice en spacious.
Nice hotel with great service and very friendly welcome. Location is right in the city center with parking nearby. Rooms are ok and breakfast was also good.
