Hotel was easy to get to near a subway stop. Also it's not a far walk from the Teramachi shopping arcade. The room was larger than most other double rooms I've stayed at in Japan. Free internet in the room was useful. The decoration was dated, and the bed was a little bit hard and springy -- not like the very soft mattresses that many places now use. Unfortunately the lobby smells like an ashtray because they allow smoking in the lobby, but I never stayed in the lobby more than 2 minutes so it wasn't a big problem. Overall, it was a good deal with a location convenient for the subway, but not right in the action.
The location is pretty good, only few minutes walk to subway. And within half an hour to reach the market and the Kyoto central, as well as some world heritage listed places.

I live in Japan, so I expected a business style hotel when I booked Gimmond. It was pretty much what I had expected, small room, cramped unit bath and small TV. The price was in line with the room I stayed in. The location was great with subway lines close by and not far from the sites. The staff spoke English well and were very helpful when I had questions. One doesn't go to Kyoto to stay in the room so I think it is a good place to hang your hat. Don't expect luxury.
very nice hotel, i booked 1 double and 1 tripple bedroom, the double bedroom is quite small compare to tripple bedroom that to my opinion can even put even 5 single bed. so my daughters were very happy as they have a bigger room. near to subway station, 2 minutes walking distance. you can even walk to nijo castle or imperial caste (only a station away from hotel). staff are also very helpful and they speak good english.
Hotel is very near a subway station which is great but not too convenient to the shopping district in Kyoto. The doors and walls are thin so from your room you can hear the coming and going of other patrons in the hotel. But like all Japanese hotels, the staff are incredibly helpful and provide very good service.
I enjoyed my stay. Staff were courteous and obliging. They had a good grasp of English. I was satisfied with every aspect of my booking / stay.
The hotel is kind of european small scale operated hotel. It is very clean and tidy. Location is also very convenient. It is only 2 minutes walk from the nearby subway station.
nothing amazing here but good value for money and very convenient. staff spoke above average english.
The hotel is in a charming street and is close to a subway station. The bathroom is very dated and we expected a bit more for the room rate.
There is only one computer available in the lobby for guests to use and it is sometimes impossible to work there as this area is also used as a meeting point for hotel guests. If Japanese is not your language it is very hard to use this equipment. There are no international or English langauage chanels available on the hotel room TV so all in all not the best place to stay for a business traveler without a laptop. Otherwise a lovely hotel!
This hotel is well located approximately 25 metres from an underground station. It is walking distance from a number of places of interest and it is close to bus stops which can take you to Kyoto train and bus station. There are ample convenience stores within easy walk which stock an array of food choices.
The beds are very soft but the rooms are surprisingly large for Japan standards. The location is pretty good as it is very central in Kyoto. All in all a very good choice for a comfort-concerned budget traveller... Recommended...
What a find. It may not be in the main vicinity of the station but this hotel is worth a visit. The room was beautiful and very well equipped. We liked it so much we added an extra night!
This is a very nice hotel for a low price, and excellent for a European guy like me. It had a very good service, the staff speaks and understands English (if you are native speaker, speak slowly, please!). It is located a few steps away from the metro station where the two metro lines meet each other, more than perfect location! Just 3 metro stations away from the Main Rail Station. In front of the hotel, there is a Seven-Eleven store having delicious food. Just next to the hotel, there is a good Italian restaurant, too. Under the building, there is a parking garage, but I think it's easier in Kyoto without a car. The unusually wide road in front of the hotel makes going back to the hotel safe even in the night. There is very good service in the rooms (TV, free Internet, tea, etc.). The rooms are not spaceous, though, like all over in Japan. I definitely recommend this hotel for European or American tourists.
Nice clean and comfortable hotel in a central location and close to the the subway and restaurant and shopping area. The staff were English speaking and were warm and very helpful in telling me how to get around. I had a pleasant stay here.
We got what we expected - not a luxury hotel but adequate for a budget price. I found the smell of smoke the first night overpowering. The rooms were small but so are many rooma in Japan. It's OK but only if you realise that better costs more.
Small room - clean but small!!
Gimmond Hotel is a very central location - only a 2-minute walk from the subway. Rooms have TV, internet access, and are clean - definitely adequate if one is out sightseeing most of the day. Breakfast is not included in the stay here, but next door there is a restaurant where breakfast is available. There is also a 4711 store opposite the hotel, which has a good selection of items and also has an ATM machine. Staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.
Safetybox would be nice to be in hotel room.
5-10 minutes walk from the rail station and 15 minutes away from the city center. Recommended.
