It's a historical building so it's good to be able to experience it. Our room was huge. Two queen sized for the 2 of us. Gave us robes and in-room scandals. Balcony attached to room. What i dislike was the (i) the bathroom floods when u bath. No drainage. (ii) the balconies are connected to the next room so kinda dangerous. Shuttle service available to fetch us to the nearest metro station. A little inconvenient for travellers with luggages as the area near the metro is undergoing constructions now. (Sep 2010)
This is an unusual hotel well worth a stay for its uniqeness. It is a Palace, both in appearance and ambiance. It stands high over Taipei so it is a landmark. The National Palace museum is a short taxi ride away and not to be missed. If shopping is your thing, there is an interesting assortment of shops up the central stairway. The travel desk was very helpful.

Grand hotel is considered as the best hotel in taipei as i think it represents the history of taiwan. The location is not that good and most of the time, you'll have to take taxi from the hotel to other places. The service is good but i prefer the decoration and design of the hotel.A Good Place to stay.Do have a try.
The room is spacious and the free shuttle bus to the Yuanshan train station makes it very convinent.
Old and out dated room (3 1/2 star), lobby is beautful.
service is very impressive, facility are good
It seems the rooms are not good in sound-proof. I can clearly hear sounds made in the neiboring rooms at night.
I found the Grand Hotel Taipei to be a beautiful hotel whose architecture and lobby truly gave one a taste of being in China. While the economy rooms were a bit small, it didn't matter if, as was the case for me, it were just a place to lay your head for the night while touring around the city. The more expensive view rooms were nicer and would have been worth the upgrade if I had spent more time at the hotel. While the location initially seemed to be a problem, once I discovered the shuttle bus to the MRT I found it to be quite convenient and a nice get away from the hustle and bustle of being in town.
A truly grand hotel. Probably one of te most impressive looking hotels in the world
Great hotel. very big room with a huge balcony. The building is old but well renovated.
Since it's a unique landmark hotel, there is no substitute for it in Taiwan. There are trails nearby, excellent for a morning walk.
Overall a very nice hotel. This hotel is really a landmark, and the structure is absolutely impressive, which increases its appeal. The facilities could use some improvement, such as free internet. The location is also good but not excellent, as it's not really too close to anything at all. In terms of price, it's a little expensive but I still think it's worth staying here at least a night or two just for the experience.
Great buidling, beautiful room and equipment. We felt like being in Forbidden City in China. Very romantic.
I booked via [your website] for a deluxe room with a view (non smoking) and when I arrived at the hotel which was rather late approx. 11pm, after checking it I had to walk a long long way, up the stairs, down the stairs and across the carpark before I got to my room. I had to carry my own baggage and was alittle nervous having to walk so far and in the dark away from the main lobby. When I arrived at the room and opened the door, the heavy stale smoke smell hit me which I immediately said I could sleep in a room like this. I requested for a room change but was told there was no room available. After discussing for a while with the front office, they decided to give me another room, however this was not a deluxe room, a much smaller room which was a standard room. I had no choice but to stay in this room for the night and request that they find me a non smoking deluxe room the next 2nights. I dont feel the hotel which appears very grand have the level of service I expected.
The Grand is very plush and efficient. I booked the budget standard room which is now advertised as inside room with no view, that is the case but it was still ample for me as a single with good bed, lots of room and a great shower. The budget room does not include breakfast and for the price of the buffet breakfast, you may wish to upgrade the room if breakfast is included as there are no places within an easy walk from the hotel to eat. The hotel offers free shuttle to the nearest MRT station and very reasomable airport shuttle service. I would definately stay there again.
