Great Southern Hotel Sydney Guest Reviews

3 out of 5

The reception was classy and rooms are decent, we stayed for one night because we just needed a place to crash. The room smelled of BO so my friend had to spray his cologne around the room. General necessities provided but you need to bring your own toothbrush! All in all, its okay for a place to stay for the night at a reasonable price.

Staff were extremely helpful, pleasant and professional. Although they have a reasonable breakfast menu, you are locked in to only three options. I enquired about vegetarian /gluten free options and was told that I could only choose from the three options available. This was a bit frustrating as I had provided my own gluten free toast and only wanted to purchase a cup of tea and some scrambled eggs which was clearly available and within reach. I felt a bit like Jack Nicholson in 'Five Easy Pieces'. In the end I was able to negotiate something for breakfast and the Reception staff were as helpful as they could be in the face of a very rigid breakfast system. It left a bit of a 'bad taste' in what was otherwise a very pleasant stay.

The number one reason to choose this hotel is for its location. Located in a busy/bustling section of Sydney, walking distance to everything. The room was basic, but clean. The check-in process is fine. The hotel bar has a very good selection of food and wine with sidewalk seating.

First CLass for three nights. We enjoyed meeting our relations and dining in the Hotel Bar with them. The Bar staff were most friendly, and we shall hope to visit the hotel again when next in Sydney.

I've stayed here before and would stay here again. On this occasion we were going to the Capitol Theatre so that was convenient and my granddaughter had an early flight next morning so we were close to the train to the airport. I live out of Sudney and travel in and out by train so it is good for me too. No compaints at all.

Overall a great place to stay. Location was great and easy walking distance to most places in the CBD. A bus stop at the front door made getting further a breeze. The only down side was a lump in the bed.

We loved this hotel because it had bags of character - art deco and lots of original features, so nice after staying in modern hotels that have no personality. The staff were friendly and obliging, the room comfortable and clean with everything we needed and more. We booked an internal room thinking it would have no window but it was facing the internal atrium so was nice and quiet despite being in the city centre. A great place from where to explore Sydney.

The hotel is nice and highly recommended. Great location which is very close to the Central Station and China Town. Can gain access to Darling Harbour within walking distance. Many Asian restaurants around with reasonable price.

Centrally located Small room but adequate for my, as all I needed was a bed. Room however was a bit stuffy as a/c would not adjust below 20 celsius

Good location, so closed to Central Station, don't need a cab or a bus. Clean, but air con noisy. Bad point: I stayed 3 nights and they don't clean the room/no new towels/no empty the bins. Had to ask for more toilet paper !

Wonderful old Deco hotel right in the quick of things. The authenticity redeems the snugness of the rooms. The pricing varies wildly with the day of the week, so choose wisely.

Very friendly and efficient. Rooms on the small side but perfectly adequate. Our rooms were away from the front so we were able to sleep ver well. Staff helpful and courteous, location very convenient to all the main areas in Sydney. Have already recommended the hotel to friends
