Habitat HQ Hostel Melbourne Guest Reviews

4.8 out of 5

Situated on St Kilda Road this back-packer hotel has lots to offer the young traveller: music (free loan guitars), BBQ on some nights, free sausage sizzles, TV room (sound-proofed!!!) and off-street parking. They have both normal serviced rooms, as well as dormatory style rooms, more suited to young travellers. Rates are excellent too (about $85 a night in mid-2011 for a double room with on-suite bath). Restaurants are close at St Kilda Beach, or ride one of the three Restaurant Trams that operate on weekends. Food is not permitted in rooms (which helps to keep them very clean) but you can use the communal kitchen and dining room... and breakfast is FREE! You just have to get it yourself. I have stayed here on three occasions in the last three years and have enjoyed it every time. The lounge area is very busy and noisy at night and is a great place for 20-something year old travellers to meet. I highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in Melbourne.

After a slight glitch with the actual booking, which wasn't their fault and was made up for in several ways, the staff, venue, facilities and guests were all tops. It is a laid back venue that is clean, fun and friendly with different events on each day. I am more than happy to recommend it to anyone

Enjoyable, friendly experience: modern bathroom, good service, decent tv on wall, quiet private room. Good to mix with backpackers in the kitchen and lounge areas.

I stayed here because it was convenient for a wedding I was attending in Melbourne, not as a backpacker. However, our room was large, had an ensuite and TV and the added bonus was the great atmosphere provided by lots of young travellers from all over the world. We have been to hostels when travelling and I would thoroughly recommend this one to anyone staying in Melbourne. Fantastic staff who went out of their way to help their guests despite being extremely busy most of the time. I just wish I could have gone on the Party Bus on the Saturday night!

I had a nice clean, private room in this busy hostel. Staff could not have been better - friendly and going out of their way to be helpful. It is close to local shops and only a few minutes walk to the St. Kilda beach. All in all I was very pleased with my stay and would recommend the private rooms to others.

This is by far the best hostel we have stayed in. The bedrooms were clean and quiet, only one minor complaint, the TV is not very well placed (too high to view comfortably when seated) but a small problem. The kitchen facilities were excellent and very clean (everyone whilst we were there did the right thing cleaning and washing dishes, utensils and the tables. Friendly and courteous staff and we were treated equally despite being Senior Citizens in a predominantly youthful environment. Would definitely stay there again.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The hostel was clean and inviting and the safety measures they have set up are incredible. A great place to stay, hang out or to use as a sleep place before you head out in to St Kilda. I'm definitely going back there again.

Pretty good hostel its a little out of town and sits right on the nepean but surprisingly not noisy at all.. staff were great, price was very good and facilities were fine.. though maybe one suggestion is that they have a dedicated TV and DVD room and not have it in the communal area.. most top quality hostels pick up on this and do it..

Almost fully catered for backpackers. A visitor could, over the age of 30, feel some out of place and the services reflect that. Having secure car parking arrangement with some bothersome attachments. Friendly staff. Very good meeting place with internet facilities.

Great backpackers! The location is a bit seedy, but the building is kept in excellent condition. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I would definitely go again.

This is a new Backpacker establishment and it is run very well - you will sleep well as the beds are comfortable and there is no noise. The rooms on the 3rd floor all have ensuite facilities, air con, TV and tea making facilities but no fridge. Rates had been raised due to the Oz Open. Our room had double bed and 2 bunk beds- perfect for a family and outside of Oz open cost would be $100 - good value.

Lovely room with all the necessary facilities apart from a fridge and hairdryer but we could live without them! Was the most comfy bed of all the hotels we stayed in Australia!!

Very friendly och helpful staff at reception. Nice approach to guests by organising events for everyone to join in, like pizza and dvd on sundayevening or free pancakes on wednesdaymorning! Healthy "law and order" in common kitchen, clean laundryroom with good facilities. Mostly young backpackers, but also well suited for middleaged couple like us. Situated by heavy traffic on St Kilda road, yet fairly close to beach at St Kilda och near to lively streets of shops and bars.
