The hotel’s superb location, just 2 hours from the glaciers and 3 hours from Queenstown, makes it the ideal stopover point between the West Coast and the Southern Lakes. Haast is the gateway to the South Island’s rugged West Coast, one of the most breathtaking, untouched regions of New Zealand. Following extensive refurbishment, the Heartland World Heritage Hotel is the perfect base to escape the hustle of modern life and explore the scenic splendor of South Westland. The hotel offers 52 rooms consisting of 50 Superior Rooms and 2 Family Suites. Many rooms offer views towards the mountains, while others look out over the vast surrounding farmland. The Frontier Café & Bar is well renowned for fantastic food, and offers a-la-carte dining in a relaxed atmosphere. The bar also offers sky television and two pool tables and is the perfect place to interact with the locals. The other dining option is the seasonal “Waitoto Grill” which is open during the high season for dinner. “The Waitoto Grill” is also open on demand for group lunches and daily for buffet breakfast. Activities such as local Haast River jetboating, heli-flights and glacier hikes, can be pre-booked at the tour desk. The numerous walking tracks in the area will ensure guests capture some spectacular photographs, and everlasting memories of their time spent in Haast, New Zealand’s last frontier.

Getting there:From Wanaka - Travel along the highway past Haast Township for 4km to Haast Junction, before the Haast Bridge. Turn left on to Jackson Bay Road and the hotel is on the right. From the Glaciers - Following the Haast Bridge, turn right at Haast Junction onto Jackson Bay Road and the hotel is on the right.
Check-in Procedure:Should you require your room before check in time, we can arrange this subject to availability and by prior request. If you arrive after reception has closed, your keys will be available from the Frontier Cafe & Bar.

Good hotel/motel and would recommend but there isn't much choice in Haast anyway.
Hotel is ideal as a stop-over - it serves to provide a room to sleep in that's clean and tidy. The nearby pubs are interesting with good food at a fair price

A bit tired and had we organised our travelling a little better, we would have given Haast a miss! Owing to power problems, no fridge in room, a bit inconvenient. Not much to offer in the way of facilities in the town either.
Buffet breakfast, ran out of tea bags and hot water and staff not available for some time. Diningroom closed for dinner at this time of year shich was a pity. Otherwise a lovely quiet place to stay.
Quite old and isolated. Nothing really wrong with it - but just a bed for the night. Not charm or character. Wireless internet only works in reception...not in the rooms.
Friendly and nice staff. Comfortable and clean rooms. Really nice restaraunt and bar next to the rooms: great to sit in front of the open fire and enjoy a beer! Good location at the gateway to the West Coast forest, beach and central mountain area.
Nice clean rooms. The location is in a nice setting out in the middle of nowhere. The only reason we wouldn't stay there again is the location and price.
good food, great value and friendly service
The units are adequately sized and very clean. The showers are very good. No bath. Staff are friendly and helpful. There are no cooking facilities due to erratic power supply. There is a communal fridge. Evening meal was taken in the "Sports Bar". This is a large room with sport consistently on t.v. Basic meals such as steak and chips, fish and chips give large portions and were good value. Other meals, i.e. chicken carbonara was not so good. Half sized, half price portions can be ordered for those with smaller appetites. This is a one night stopover place. Do not go on the beach, sandflies abound and will eat you up! A 30km drive to Jackson Bay is fine but you will not find a coffee at the end of it. For nature lovers, springtime is probably best, we saw no animals in the autumn (end February) except dead possums.
A comfortrable hotel room. Exceptionally helpful reception staff, and a really good set menu dinner.
Didn't actually stay in the hotel: Haast is a tiny place, and we needed to get to Queenstown that day. However, staff were really understanding,and the food and service in the restaurant was superb. Place was clean and, since the hotel is pretty much all you'll find in Haast, it's location was fine.

Desk clerk was rude and unhelpful at check-in. At three o'clock in the morning we were startled when someone started pounding on the door to the adjacent room. Breakfast food was marginal.
Very nice hotel in the middle of no-where. Nice surprise as we only stayed here to break up a long drive. Nice rooms, lovely breakfast. Picturesque location.
Pleasant, quiet location for our trip between Queenstown and Fox Glacier.
Haast is a wilderness area and the hotel fits into that area very well. It is not flashy but clean and comfortable. The restaurant at the Hotel serves an excellent meal.
Basic, adequate hotel. Only thing around for kilometres, so it's not bad at all. Super meal in the Bistro and a raging fireplace to keep us warm.
A very enjoyable stay with very friendly and helpful staff. Our room had been recently renovated and was extermely comfortable and well presented.
No fridge available in room, but will store things in their own kitchen,good smorgesboard dinner
