"A bit tired and had we organised our travelling a little better, we would have given Haast a miss! Owing to power problems, no fridge in room, a bit inconvenient. Not much to offer in the way of facilities in the town either. " - Peter May
"Buffet breakfast, ran out of tea bags and hot water and staff not available for some time. Diningroom closed for dinner at this time of year shich was a pity. Otherwise a lovely quiet place to stay." - Anonymous
"Haast Heartland. How do you judge a hotel that is quite remote? On a value basis it wouldn’t score well. Low electrical power constrained in room kit- communal fridge in corridor- just about clean enough but definitely an overnight stay and no longer. No real comforts. No views. Motel style accommodation." - John Dickinson
"Not the best I'm afraid. Room looked very dated, heater was interesting, had to check in via a bar as the reception wasn't open and wasn't on the road it said it was. Wouldn't bother staying in Haast again, nothing there to do or see! Better off driving all the way to Queenstown" - Richard Trowbridge

| Hotel description: |
|
Nestled at the bottom of South Westland alongside the Haast River, you will find the Heartland World Heritage Hotel. The hotel’s superb location, just 2 hours from the glaciers and 3 hours from Queenstown, makes it the ideal stopover point between the West Coast and the Southern Lakes. Haast is the gateway to the South Island’s rugged West Coast, one of the most breathtaking, untouched regions of New Zealand. Following extensive refurbishment, the Haast World Heritage Hotel is the perfect base to escape the hustle of modern life and explore the scenic splendor of South Westland.
The hotel offers 52 rooms consisting of 50 Superior Rooms and 2 Family Suites. Many rooms offer views towards the mountains, while others look out over the vast surrounding farmland. The “Frontier Café & Bar” is well renowned for fantastic food, and offers a-la-carte dining in a relaxed atmosphere. The bar also offers sky television and two pool tables and is the perfect place to interact with the locals. The other dining option is the seasonal “Waitoto Grill” which is open during the high season for dinner. “The Waitoto Grill” is also open on demand for group lunches and daily for buffet breakfast.
Activities such as local Haast River jetboating, heli-flights and glacier hikes, can be pre-booked at the tour desk. The numerous walking tracks in the area will ensure guests capture some spectacular photographs, and everlasting memories of their time spent in Haast, New Zealand’s last frontier.
