When I checked out this hotel on line I saw an equal number of good and bad reviews. I arrived with some trepidation. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff including the hotel manager were friendly and accomodating - better than some expensive places. The room was new, clean, excellent shower and food at the small food court was convenient and reasonably priced. This is not a luxury hotel but it certainly met my needs for the medical meeting. In addition, it was very convenient to public transportation including getting to the airport in 17 minutes on the metro and train. I highly recommend this hotel.
Hotel was good, food and service as well, location far from the city 15min on tram.
The room was pretty clean, nice and comfortable, heated 24 hours. Though there were no safe-storage and refrigerator(mini-bar). The elevator in the hotel does not work and it was said by the staff it was broken (to me it seems it's been already broken for a couple of years) The food inside the hotel's bar is very expensive, so are the drinks. The hotel is located a bit far from the city center and the distance is not walkable by foot. The hotel is connected to the city center by 5 minutes walking to the Tram no 2 or to the night bus (15-20 minutes travel) (the operator of the tram usually announce the 'HEM HOTEL STOP') (the tram stops almost in all the tourist attraction sites) If you are planning to travel by public transportation in Amsterdam I would recommend making a free pass to to the public transportation as every ride on the tram costs 2.60 euro and making a free pass would be cheaper. It was the lowest price hotel I could find at the time.
I stayed there for two days and I found it calm, clean and comfortable. It is a little bit far from the centre of the city but there are good tram connections and that was not a problem at all.
Great hotel for this price. Good transport connection to the city center. Will book there again.
I loved it! The staff was friendly and super helpful.
It's nice hotel with reasonable price. there is good transportation to the center, it takes 15-20 minutes.
Good hotel, good breakfast, but not a great location. You will need to use the tram to go anywhere. Not much in the way of shops nearby.
this hotel had a excellant breakfast and close to public transport.
12 euro for parking per day is a rip off. Room was ok, but small. Window couldnt open, so couldnt get fresh air in the room which was really bad. For the price it was ok.
The reception staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast is good, but it is too expensive. (Not included in the room price)
Staff very helpful. Did not change towels in the time we were there. No fridge or tea/coffee facilities in room.
the hotel was nice although the location was a bit far from the sentrum. the buffet breakfast was very good at the same time varied. the beds were nice and the staff were courteous.
20 euro cab ride to the Rai and Dam Square. Seems like the going rate. Thought i would save some money on the hotel by getting a less expensive one like the HEM but spent a fortune in taxis so lost that way. very helpful staff on reception, great rooms basic but clean. Not that you go to Amsterdam to watch Tv but cnn Television only english channel.
The hotel was great. The staff was excellent. Laurien who works at the desk assisted me with travel arrangements that went wrong and I was able to overcome this with her help. Many thanks. The only downfall was location. Even though there are many trams that go to this area it was still a long journey especially in the Winter rain season.
The hotel has one main building and an extra building of very poor quality. Unfortunately I stayed in this extra building. I booked this hotel as 3 star - but this extra building is below one star standard. The rooms are small, the bathrooms dirty and small. Definitely not recommended!!
A real find - could not fault it. Staff were superb, food excellent, reception extremely helpful - and very understanding when we got lost and phoned for help - and the breakfast met even my 17 year-old's hearty appetite ! Room was faultless. An excellent experience all round.
I am currently staying in this hotel for a longer period (couple of months) and I must say that this is the best hotel I have stayed in during my stay in Amsterdam in this price class in this area. The staff especially is very friendly! They have a bar and instead of a restaurant they have a food corner where you can get salads, steak, pizza and that kind of stuff. You can take the food to your room or the former restaurant as a substitute for not having the restaurant itself anymore. The location is fine for me because I work in the area but it's quite a walk to get to the centre of Amsterdam. I always take the tram which is a 5 minute walk and a 10 minute ride to the centre of town so that’s fine as well. I am staying in the main building but there also is a separate building with rooms which looks a bit ramshackle to me. I am note sure how the rooms are over there but I would prefer to stay in the main building so try to book a room here if this is possible.
An ok hotel, but it was quite a distance from the centre of Amsterdam and it was also difficult to find as it was hidden around the back of an estate. Staff were friendly enough but I dont think I would use this particular hotel again.
Breakfast was very good and rooms clean but the hotel is not central and is next to a freeway. It is easy to catch a tram to central railway and some attractions from this hotel.
