the location and attractive price makes this hotel interesting. Clenliness is not really great. Room size is ok. ideally located at the north of the famous Bund, it is very easy to visit this beautiful part of Shanghai with hassle. the proximity of a cloth market makes this place a good choice, too. Food nearby is not really good. There is a Starbucks just at the corner of the street. Also part of the area is currently reconstructed, letting still some nice old buildings to be seen. Local life is also more visible when going more north. In addition of the Huangpu river there is also the possiblity to walk along the Suzhou creek.
I like this hotel, good Location bed is comfort and staff are very helpful, next time would like to stay again.

Hotel very nice. Close to the Bund. Comfortable, clean.
真不是時後 游泳池整修 26樓餐廳也再維修 希望要快一點把設施用好一點 離外灘還蠻近的一下子就到可以看到東方 之珠的地方
I HAVE STAYED AT THIS HOTEL SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST 3 YEARS BUT WAS MOST DISSAPOINTED THIS TIME. THE ROOF TOP BAR ON THE 26TH FLOOR WAS UNDER RENOVATION AND I DID NOT KNOW THIS UNTIL I CHECKED IN WHICH IS ONE OF THE REASONS I STAY THERE WITH ITS GREAT VIEW OVERLOOKING THE CITY. ALSO, EQUIPMENT THAT I ROUTINELY USE IN THE GYM WAS BROKEN AND WAS ASSURED BY MANAGEMENT THAT WHEN I RETURNED THE FOLLOWING WEEK, IT WOULD BE FIXED, WHICH IT WAS NOT. I AM NOT SURE I WILL STAY THERE AGAIN. I HAVE ANOTHER MODERATELY PRICE HOTEL ALSO CLOSE TO DOWNTOWN.
The overall experience is good, the sheets are clean, room is nice. But it's smelly in the bathroom, especially in the tub area.
This hotel seems like new, and the room we occupied was just newly renovated. It has a big bedroom as well as a living room with sofa bed and LCD TV. You can also cook in the room with nice utensils and fully equipped new and modern kitchen. The location is good, and not far from the world known Shanghai Bund. It was my pleasure to have stayed in this hotel, and would likely go back again if I were in Shanghai.
rooms were of good size shame the smell of smoke was right through the hotel/roof top viewing was good at night pity u couldn't get to it by day/internet was available should have been free/hotel staff were good shame about the massage girls trying to drum up business/location was excellent easy walking to the bund, narjing rd,metro during the day or nite i thought the price was very reasonable for what you got.
(Part-1) I was in a superior room facing the Bund, and though it cost slightly more, it is totally worth it. Not only for the view itself, but the room itself is 4Star+. If I remember correctly, it was on 23rd floor, which was just two-floors below the Sky-Deck where I had a great time enjoying the early Autumn breeze, (from 5 to 7pm) and watching sunset on two evenings. I had a local guest with me, and together with another Singapore friend, we had a wonderful time, soaking in the panoramic views of Pudong and Puxi, while enjoying tea, finger foods, beer and cocktails. The manager of the restaurant on the same floor as the Sky-Deck was very friendly, and although he was about to retire, I found him extremely hospitable, and he very kindly ushered us down to the level where there was a Chinese restaurant. I asked him to suggest several items of Shanghainese food, as this was my first trip to SH, and he dealt directly with the restaurant captain.
I chose this hotel because of its location. Walking distance to the Bund, Lovers bridge, shooping and the old street area withe rock gardens and ponds
It was a great place to stay - about 20 minutes walk from The Bund across Wongsu Creek. We had good views of the Huang Po River & the Bund from our room. The breakfasts were exccellent. The only drawback was the fact that the bellboys did not have good English so it was difficult to explain to taxi drivers where we wanted to go - even with a map.
The room they provided me was not the same room they had discribed in the web. It was so small, no view, not clean. Had a hard time to get taxi in front of the hotel at night.
Reasonable hotel. OK Breakfast. Overall everything was OK, but let down by: 1. On checkin, the receptionist did not want to honour the Hotelclub voucher. The voucher clearly showed amount already paid to Hotelclub and "Balance Payable to Hotel". It seems she did not understand English well enough and could not grasp that I should not be paying more than "Balance Payable to Hotel". I had to stand my grand and repeat myself several times before she would call someone to check and find out I was correct. 2. Carpet in the room was not clean and had hairs everywhere. Not only were there hairs everywhere in the carpet, hair was also in the bathroom sink, bath etc. 3. Location is not so great. Even though somewhat close to the Bund, it is not a great location as not near a subway station and is difficult to get a taxi.
Good things: 1. Nice breakfast 2. Nice view to the Shanghai Bund from the top of the building. 3. Have international TV channel. Bad things: 1. The location of hotel is quite far from the nearest MRT station and to the Shanghai Bund (by walking distance) 2. The nearest MRT station is line 10 which is still new line, therefore the line will operate from 6 am to 8 pm. If you will always go out in the night, you will need taxi to go back to the hotel. 3. The internet access is not free, they charge for RMB 50/ day which is fair price, but the speed of the internet is very slow. 4. The hotel is very old, and you can find smoking smell in the lobby and corridor easily.
Good location and service. buffet breakfast has a lot of choices.
I would strongly recommend the Hengsheng. It is a 5-10 minute taxi ride to either the Bund or else the Tanjing road shopping district. Hotel staff are very pleasant, although not all speak English. Breakfast is great, but don't be late as they really do close off at 10.00am. The room was very large, the bathroom was excellent, there was a pleasant little bar plus a magnificant rooftop bar and restaurant with amazing evening views to the city centre lights. I would definitely stay here again, especially considering the price.
English language skills are good enough to check in and get basic information, but communication can be difficult late at night or for complex requests. I called to change my breakfast room service, I thought it was changed, but then I got woke early with breakfast. And I would stay away from the room service breakfast, it wasn't good; the buffet breakfast that the hotel serves was great though, so many choices of Chinese and western food and eggs cooked how you want. The location is good, but requires a little bit of walking, or a taxi. Rooms are very nice, beds are firm but not hard, view is good, and they are clean. The bathrooms are stocked with a shaver, toothbrush, slippers, and other small amenities. Last qualm, the showers don't have shampoo and soap bars, there is a dispenser on the wall (like one would find in a public bathroom) with average pump soap. Overall though, great hotel, well worth the price, short walk to the tourist areas, and highly recommended.
As far as Chinese hotels go, this was very nice. The buffet breakfast was outstanding, the staff very helpful with many English-speakers. There were a few drawbacks: filthy locker rooms restroom at pool, staff unable to check my asking for an additional nights reservation then being locked out of our rooms on the added day. Overall, though, a great deal for the price. It's not their fault the Bund is a construction nightmare! And the staff tried really hard to be helpful.
The streets right outside the hotel were under construction, noisy and dusty. Wish they have better non-smoking areas. Food was average at best.
i was very happy with the room but i was dissapointed that there was construction work noise at time it was till 10 pm at night if you go to shanghai careful where you stay as there is plenty of work going on for the 2010 expo
