"A budget hotel with facilities to match. Outside very impressive, inside dated and some shabby areas. Greeting upon arival was poor and if I had not paid over the internet, I would have gone elsewhere. However, interactions with other staff saved the day. Good breakfast. Outrageously priced wifi. Our bed and breakfast hotel style accommodation in Edinburgh's city centre is the ideal choice for those who would like to make the most of Edinburgh. The Herald House Hotel has 46 ensuite bedrooms and an experienced and dedicated team who, through their personal service, aim to ensure that guests have a comfortable and relaxing stay. Located within easy walking distance of Princes Street and about 5 minutes from Haymarket Railway Station, The hotel is ideally located for business travellers and those on holiday. Most of the best known Edinburgh attractions are within walking distance and the Hotel has a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and bars around it. The building was originally designed by Fredrick T. Pilkington in 1864, a major architectural contributor to Edinburgh and the surrounding area. It was originally built as a Hostel to accommodate male workers from the many factories surrounding Fountainbridge, but it has been established as a Hotel since 1987. |

Waverley rail station and the main bus station are a short taxi ride away. Haymarket rail station is a five minute walk from the hotel.
Taxis and shuttle buses to and from the city centre are readily available.
From Waverley station, take the No. 1 or No.34 bus, get off the bus at Port Hamilton bus stop in Fountainbridge Road, go straight ahead and then take the second right turn into Grove Street, you will see the hotel immediately on the left.
From Haymarket station, facing the clock tower, take the second exit from the right onto Morrison Street. Then go straight on, past a set of traffic lights, and the next right hand turn is Grove Street. There is a carpet shop on the corner. Carry on straight to the end of Grove Street, the hotel is on your right hand side.

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Herald House Hotel. Check in is from 3pm. Should you arrive before this time then we will be happy to store your luggage for you. However, if the room is available then you will be able to check in early at no extra charge. Check out is at 11am on the morning of your departure. Full breakfast is also included in the price. Please note that the Herald House is a Non-smoking hotel, and that unfortuantely we are no longer able to accept AMEX. |
