This hotel offers free transfers, and you may even be collected from the airport in a Lincoln limousine or an ancient Mercedes. It's 6-7km from the airport and 8km (a 10-minute drive or 30-minute cycle ride) from the temples at Angkor Wat.

They stand between the main house and the pool and all are on the second floor of a smart colonial-style building. They mix traditional influences with a contemporary finish: airy high-ceilings, pressed bamboo floors, shiny teak bedheads, whitewashed walls and crisply-laundered linen. Excellent granite deluge shower rooms have studded pavements lights instead of windows. If your budget doesn’t stretch to the suites, don’t be shy about booking these and enjoy the rest of this wonderful hotel.

Bungalow Suite

Step inside to find large open-plan rooms. One wall is made of glass and opens onto your private garden. Step outside and find designer pebbles raked into shapes, banana trees, total privacy and an outside shower – it’s all floodlit at night. Back inside, the bathing options continue. You’ll find a steam bath and a power shower in the bathroom, a contemporary oval stone bath in the actual room. As for the rest of your micro palace, super-comfortable beds come as standard and are kitted out in delicious white linen (there’s a turndown service in the evening). Colour-washed walls come in blues, greens, reds and yellows; dyed concrete floors are equally colourful. There are bowls of fruit, four-foot high paper lanterns, high ceilings, lacquered sofas, Indochina prints and flowers everywhere. It’s all very Zen.
