beautiful setting peaceful relaxing. Staff were very good and helpful. Food was good. The hotel itself was beautiful with excellent views but did lack atmosphere somewhat. This however did not make our stay any less enjoyable. Having been once not sure we would go back only because there are other places to try. 8/10
My son and I booked in on the same day; I booked the hotel through (website) whereas my son booked online from the Hotel website. I got a very bad room, with hardly any views, the toilet was smelling (septic smell) and the room, and the toilet was dirty. Whereas my son got a fantastic room at a lesser rate than I paid with nice views and cleaner room and a toilet. In general, the conditions of Sri Lankan hotels have come down. These hotels are doing an injustice to the tourism industry of Sri Lanka. Only good things are the excellent location and meals.
Very supportive and cooperative staff. Excellent place to see with excellent facilities.
a very unusual hotel in a very unique & beautiful setting. great choice for a special occassion. you feel totally relaxed from the minute you walk into the building, the whole atmosphere is one of peace & serenity. hotel it quite isolated, but this is a good thing if you are after complete peace & quiet. placed well for visits to Sigirirya rock & Dambulla cave temples.
very good
The hotel itself was great! The views, the room, the facilities and even the hotel service was very good. However, our bad experience was with the restaurant. The buffet and the drinks are over priced. On one occasion, we harldy ate anything from the buffet as we were in a rush and requested for the bill. naturally we paid the full price for the buffet and as the bill included a service charge tab which appeared more than generous - our tip was not much substantial. it was at this point, the staff returned with our bill and said that we had left insufficient money. when we counted it, there was a 1000 rupee note missing. as 2 of us had for sure counted the money before handing it over to the staff initially, we knew at once that this was a ploy by the staff to earn more tip. we were in a hurry and had no time to argue. so we gave them that extra 1000 rupees. though it was only about $10, it left a very bad taste in our mouth! not impressed at all....
Kandalama is a must for anyone visiting Sri Lanka. It is so close to the cultural triangle and still located in the heart of forest full of wildlife. We loved our bird wtaching walk with the local guide. The other key benefits are the Eco awards and the fact that money reaches local people unlike in other hotels.
