Heron Island is a true coral cay, located right on the Great Barrier Reef. The island is ribboned by sugar white sands, crystal clear waters and acres of brilliant coral with beautifully coloured marine life. At this World Heritage-Listed Marine National Park, all flora and fauna is protected, so the island is a nature lover's paradise, where the emphasis is on enjoying natural beauty. Stress is replaced by a sense of adventure, and your days are filled with discovery. Heron offers many activities such as guided island and reef walks, semi-submersible cruises and private beach picnics. An amazing array of animal and bird life can be discovered throughout the year, such as the delightful Green and Loggerhead Turtles. Heron is also world famous for its fantastic scuba diving and snorkelling. Experience some of Australia’s best dive spots - more than 30 dive sites are available, half of which are only 15 minutes from the beach. If it’s school holidays, you can sign the kids up for the Heron Junior Rangers (7-12yrs), where they’ll get up close and personal with a wonderful variety of marine creatures, and explore the fascinating coral cay forest and woodlands. At Voyages Heron Island, you won't see any buildings above the treeline, as the resort has been thoughtfully designed to blend with the surrounding environment.

The location is good in that it is easy to get into the water and snorkel. Snorkeling time is limited by the tide however as it is too shallow to swim when the tide is out. The facilities as well maintained but this is not a luxury resort. The food is good, but not outstanding so if you are looking for a gourmet experience this is not the place. The meal plan is $69 per day that includes a buffet lunch, which is ample, and a three course dinner. Breakfast is included in the price. There is no other place to eat, so if you can find a package with a meal plan take it. The catamaran to the island is $480rt which is steep. Try to bargain for that if you take a package. The one thing that one really needs to be aware of is the bird population. This year they say is special, but there are so many birds in the trees that it rains guano all day all night. At night the birds make a lot of noise, so bring ear plugs. Bring a hat to keep the bird poop off your head.
The buffet was very good. We could take buffet meal packege whole our stay, we wanted to take only few days. It was quite expensive.( $69 day per person) 2person for 5days was almost $700...
